After a year of designing/testing, excited to launch a foil board bag for more modern/narrow foil boards under my new brand Vurzur!
These bags adjust in size to fit multiple boards in your quiver up to a maximum length of 5’8. I use them for my 4’4 tow board, 4’7 prone board, and 5’6 mid-length. Always a snug fit and made with ballistic-grade 1682D fabric (most competitors use only 600D).
The website is still a work in progress, but the first two bags just launched on Amazon and I am offering 50% off to anyone on the forums through the end of the month.
If interested in a bag, just shoot me a PM and I will send you details!
Note: they are specifically designed for boards that have a maximum width + thickness of 24.5 inches so please don’t buy if you have a wide/thick board.
Also - for those deciding between the two options please note that the DAILY version is basically a premium technical sock made from a heat reflective liner + 1682 ballistic-weave poly vs. standard sock material. It does not have padding so it it’s best for situations like a roof rack or car travel where its not going to be getting smashed/bouncing around. Still has an external gear pocket, handle, and a massive center mast slot guaranteed to fit any boards tracks.
You may notice it’s a bit stiff to roll /close for smaller boards initially but the fabric will loosen up over time.
My supplier gave me four options for fabric and I just went with the most expensive/durable one because our fancy carbon foil boards deserve the best!
Question, I see so many board bags with dark colors and even black on the outside. Why do that, isn’t it going to be significantly hotter than a lighter color when out in the sun?
Dark colors tend to be warmer vs. lighter colors, however, they make the bag more durable over time.
One of the reasons bags fall apart is because of UV-driven fiber degradation and darker color dyes act as natural UV absorbers, significantly slowing down the polymer chain degradation caused by sunlight.
My primary goal was to create a quality bag that will last years and years vs. a bag that reflects sunlight better and degrades faster. And even the lightest color bag with a reflective exterior becomes dangerous to leave in direct sun beyond 2 hours.
But you do raise a great point. If you are going on a long drive through Baja or somewhere else with intense sun, I would encourage you to try to keep your board inside the car regardless of the bag used. And if absolutely necessary to keep in the sun for pro-longed periods, try to crack the mast zipper slot a bit to add some air circulation or even consider wrapping the board with a white knit board sock / sheet / heat reflective tarp.
I’ve learned a lot through this process and honestly realized I’ve been keeping my boards in direct sunlight way too often (while in a bag) which is probably why my 3 year old prone board feels so soft now . If any board bag advertises their product as safe to keep in the sun for several hours, they are lying!
Love all this feedback though - please keep it coming!
All that said, if this first run of bags is a success I would love to create another version in a lighter fabric. Potentially something like a canvas sock that comes undyed in a light off-white color for those days you need an extra 30 minutes of protection from the sun.
I’m generally totally in favor of a trade-off for faster bag degradation vs faster board degradation. Ideally material selection could be done to get the material good enough it isn’t too much a concern. But at least for me I will not buy a dark board bag.
What I want rock solid on a bag is the zipper/closure they seem to often break and makes the bag way less useful.
This type of feedback is super helpful - thank you! We’ll definitely plan on offering a lighter color-way in the next re-order. But don’t let a lighter color bag fool you to leave your board bag out in the sun for hours - even a pure white/silver reflective bag won’t protect your board long. The #1 way to protect your board from sun damage (regardless of bag used) is to store it in the shade with air flow (not in the trunk of a car).
Regarding zippers, we went with a marine-grade YKK zipper on this bag which is among the best available to source. That said, all zippers have the potential to get jammed with sand so they aren’t bullet-proof. If you find a better closure method (I hate velcro), please do share!
I view this as a passion-project coming from disappointment with so many bags I’ve bought in the past so I’d love to get as much feedback as possible from this group before I begin development on the V2!
Yeah it’s a cool project and I like the design! Definitely a fan of longevity direction.
Understand limiting sun exposure but my board sometimes has to be out say for example shutting DW run and other boards in dark bags get way hotter when I test.
The board bag I currently have at least for the the foil mast section has both a zipper and velcro. It works great.
The way I have tended to see zippers break is the zipper slider I think expands and can no longer get the teeth to engage. Having two zippers sliders is nice for the added redundancy it has saved some bags when one zipper slider gives to up but the other provides redundancy. What would be really cool is easily replaceable zipper slider though unsure if that is a thing
Totally makes sense and a great call-out. Ultimately the customer is always right and if there’s a demand for lighter colorways then I need to get on it
If you have any favorite bags, please do share here for inspiration!
The Curve bags are really good as day bags. Well priced, solid padding and they have held up for me. I like that I can unzip and fold half the bag back to get the board in there - makes it a lot easier to pack the board vs bags that only open at the end. The DB rolling coffin is the best travel bag I’ve used, but thats a different animal that what you are doing.
Like what you are doing here - if it accommodated longer boards I might grab one.
create an 8’0 to 6’0 board bag ( jokes ). I would grab that to accommodate the different types of dw boards.
I am curious why the smaller bag has a 1.5ft range and the larger only has a .5ft range.
If those dims are fixed, I’d imagine you would get more sales with the bag covering the biggest range and normal sizing for pw/wing and some dw boards.
