Hi. Question for everyone. I’ve been riding an Armstrong MA mk2 1190 aspect ratio 8). I just bought a UHA 870 aspect ratio 12. Im noticing that the 870 doesn’t pop up out of the water like the 1190. Does it make sense that I need to move the mast forward a bit? I just assumed that with the same brand of foil you would keep the mast in the same position. Do people change mast positions with different sized foils? Thanks Joe

If I’m changing to a foil with a longer chord, then yes, I’ll usually adjust the mast because the center of lift would likely have moved backwards.

When proning I definitely move my mast depending on the size of the foil.
Reason being on a four foot prone board you are stuck with one position to paddle in and another to pop up to your feet in.
My 150 is further back in the tracks, 90 is forward in the tracks and the 120 somewhere between the two.
When taking off prone there is a certain amount of lift that you are looking for when taking and getting to your feet. That is a personal preference.
Once up and on foil you can move your feet around to suit.

I find I have to move my mast forward a bit when I use my UHA 1270 vs my APF 1675. I found I kept having to shuffle back on the board to get the right balance point with the UHA 1270 when in the same position as my APF 1675. Moving the Mast forward about 2cm helped make everything feel more consistent.

So it turns out I was just trying to ride the new foil in weak winds. I got out last night in decent but not strong wind and the new UHA foil was popping right out of the water. I actually tried to move the mast forward but there was too much lift.
