Just received my adapter, looks the goods. Went on the mast easily and 16mm bolts went in without issue. The rear bolt hole hole does look to be out slightly but it went in fine so all g. I’m a bit nervous about 2x 16mm M6 bolts holding my kit together, someone please whisper sweet reassuring nothings into my ear.

Does that look right or should I bash it with a mallet to get it flush flush?

All good. I did 600 miles on my aluminum adapter that has a comparatively looser fit and had no issues this year. Always better to have a bit more of course but this joint isn’t relying on the bolts. My first day using Lift foils with the aluminum adapter the bolts nearly worked themselves all the way out but the foil was nice and snug on the adapter. I used a little thread tape on my Lift adapter after that and never had an issue again.

No need to bash. Just snug up the two M6 fasteners and it’ll tighten up closer to flush. On mine it was perfectly flush, but I’m sure there is a little variation from foil to foil so the adapter could sit just a little proud.

It’ll be fine. I did it a few years ago with an aluminum adapter, SS screws (16mm), and a 850S. And I’m doing it now again with this Ti adapter. You’ll be fine. Just make sure everything is tight before every session. And replace the M6 bolts after 6 months or a year depending on how much you ride and disassemble. Or if you start seeing the heads get a little wobbly when screwing them in. That also indicates fatigue.

I personally don’t want mine sticking up like that as I can feel that as vibration. But I haven’t had time to make adjustments yet. I’ve been out a few times since last weekend, but with my 980S where it fits nice and flush.

At least when I used the aluminum adapter my 16mm screws kissed the mast, I was advised to use 15mm. Also I needed to snug them up pretty good or I would have them loosen as the joint settled into the connection when riding. If left together the aluminum adapter would oxidize quickly. That all together had me pretty apprehensive using the aluminum adapter, especially cyclically loading such few aluminum threads.

I think this titanium adapter helps solve pretty much all of those things, but do like the idea of creating some small divots in the mast to allow for 16mm if needed. There are so few threads engaged already, every bit is desired I think for such loading cycles of repeated assembly but presumably much better with Ti than aluminum.

Agreed! Do NOT use 16mm fasteners unless you relieve the mast. They will bottom out on the mast instead of snugging up the foil. I included 14mm fasteners. Use those or find some 15mm, or relive the mast and use 16mm. I repeat - do NOT use 16mm unless you have drilled your mast

Great, SS is probably better for the M6 bolts since those will get removed often. I still think Ti is better for the M8 bolts if you plan to leave the adapter attached like me.

On my Stringy adapters these, in 16mm, fit with a bit of room to spare.

25 bolts for $10.25 [McMaster-Carr](https://www.mcmaster.com/93395A357/)

A bit curious seeing reports of people needing to drop to 15mm or drill out their masts. I checked 4 foils, 2 adapters, 2 brands,16mm fits fine on all of mine.

Same here, I measured mine with a vernier before putting in the bolts for the first time and 16mm fits fine.

Those are 18-8 Stainless Steel (304) my understanding is you want 316 for better corrosion resistance. Though maybe no issue especially if taken apart? I always steer clear though.

My apologies, I was kinda surprised I ordered 304 myself so I double checked.

This is the correct link to the ones I ordered, 316, $10.25 for a 25 pack: [McMaster-Carr](https://www.mcmaster.com/93395A357/)

18-8 screws are very soft and not suitable for structural applications. Don’t use those

I think that is an overgeneralization.

The strength of 18-8 (304) and 316 stainless fasteners can be nearly identical. 316’s primary advantage is improved corrosion resistance, particularly in saltwater and chemical environments. McMaster-Carr lists both of these 18-8 (304) and 316 fasteners at 70,000 PSI tensile strength.

While 316 is the better choice for saltwater environments, 18-8 is not inherently too soft for structural applications. The specific fastener’s mechanical rating and suitability for the intended load and joint assembly are what matter.
