Yo, I want in. Originally from AR, have family near Beaumont. Wanna foil Texas. I am a low performance Winger, SUP, and Dock Starter living in SoCal.

How are you buying used gear these days?

Just being poor and not buying anything. But this site is good. http://usedwatersports.com/

Then the hood river facebook groups have tons of gear that I was looking at for my trip. That’s where the deals are. Ended up being able to borrow a smaller double skin parawing though and didn’t have to spend money on gear I would have no use for down here in LA.

This is me! I haven’t changed a thing in 2 years. My old busted gear is FINE. Any time I swap setups for the new hotness it feels ok but not amazing and my boys report back that my gear is not lacking!

Thats me and F4, dropped 3.5k and was like "it’s good, but not earth shattering " sold it for what i bought it for. F4 does have good marketing, drop a shit load of foils and let the influencers hype them up! I went back to my AFS. Now i rather not buy any gear and use what i have.

Few of us are rich-enough that money is no object. I think the industry is going to consolidate b/c there’s not enough money chasing all this R&D.

When I was in hood river my mind was blown. A literal LINE of people to get on and off the water every time you came in or out. The money is not in surf. It’s in lakes and rivers.

Good point, but we have to be careful estimating the market size from the people at an S-tier destination - everyone wants to go there. Joe Sixpack is happy to pump up a SUP to mill about on the water at your average lake.

very true.

But if you look at the parallels with road and mountain bikers - it constantly amazes me how many $10K+ bikes I see on any given Sunday.

That’s a really good example.

I’d argue there aren’t that many parallels at all and that you shouldn’t be amazed. Any ‘ol schmuck with a credit card can role into a bike shop, drop $10k on a bike + gear, and then actually hop on and ride the thing without needing to develop any additional skill set.

Yes and Parawing will be taking over and has already

Which hood river fb groups have a lot of gear?

Northwest foiling is pretty good. Used parawing group has a lot but mostly Europe.
