New KT foils - who has some info

Just get the new KT mast if you’re worried about stiffness.

For reference I’m 180 lbs and got along fine with the standard KT carbon mast and foils up to the nomad 980.

The new one is 2,000$ shipped so not really in my budget at the moment.

Some used v1’s for 5-600$ - much less prone to crazy depreciation at that price.

Good to hear the 980 felt fine for 180lbs. My biggest is the 960 atlas

Anyone have an idea how mast placement is for a KT Solus (775) with Apex (77cm) mast, say generally forward, middle, or rear in track placement. Ideally in relation to a Code foils R setup which I feel rides fairly forward generally in tracks.

Solus 775 on a 50 L Super K2, if that helps. Pretty much where I ride the Atlas 570 as well.

If anybody wonders how are the upwind downwind angles with the biggest Solus. Light wind day, with a wing.

Reporting back, very happy with the KT set. Went for the three Atlas tails in the end. 1340+205 has been great for dockstart so far, going to try with the 170 tail soon. The 960, 680, 170, 145 are great for winging.

Surprisingly nimble for such high AR, very good low end, with an incredible stall angle. Good advice from KT to size down 20%, I can use 680 easily when the wind is >15 knots. Tested 1340 yesterday with 8-10 knots, works fine.

The foils feel incredibly smooth, at first I had to adjust a bit, because they felt slow, but comparing to other riders, they are not. Will report back on pumping and wave-riding once I have improved more in those areas.

First day with a KT Solus 565, using a KT Pulse 95 tail. Incredibly stable setup.

I need some advice on Solus sizing:

Which Solus size and tail would you recommend as a daily driver for the following parameters?

  • Rider weight: 85kg (188lbs)
  • Parawing assisted downwind runs on Maui North Shore
  • Focus on fun cruising and maximize time on foil (not racing)
