Trash-Bag Brands (parawing main thread)

I haven’t tried either (only D-Wings), but looking at the line length on the POW 4 m makes me much less interested in it. Simply too long. Not an issue with 2.5 or 1.7.

I hear good things. but hard to believe that a 4m pow has much better low-end than 5.1 Maliko. I wish there was a 5m POW

Thanks for your input, Gonefoiling…how’s the stash ability with the POW, and what’s your height/weight?

170/6. normal wing span.

Stash is alright. i’m still learning but yesterday i pulled into a “flower” in one move. saw a video of someone stashing the 4m pretty quickly. but its not as easy as with the PR or the king of stash BRM for sure. if it were 2.5m this would not even be a point of concern.

Smik joining the party.

I had a quick session on the Smik Parawing prototype over the weekend, and Scotty has really come up with something special. It rode exceptionally well-super stable with no flutter. It tracked upwind efficiently and stowed well for a 4.2m wing with 4 sets of lines. Yes you heard right 4 sets.

The wing features four sets of lines, including an adjustable second set at the bar, allowing you to tweak the profile for either low or high wind conditions. It’s still early days, but the design shows a lot of promise.

I had a ton of fun on the PR in hood river!
Flow has similar characteristics for what I’m looking to ride. The PR is a bit lighter and more HighAspect with a longer bar making it easier to stall out. Maybe a bit lighter.
Tried the POW, it’s nice as well, but with the lines being so long I’m not in love and discarded it.

Looking forward to see how the frigate from F-one is and heard good things from testing.

I few videos on my IG

@Dylan I showed someone this clip and they were seriously impressed, convinced them to learn some tacks

Incendiary topic: which foil company is the least well positioned to benefit from all the parawing interest?

My take would be that most people now want to pair their parawing with the surfiest foils possible.

Depends where you are I think.

In the gorge or a bay a surf foil makes a ton of sense with slow steep bumps and current against the wind.

In the ocean, I prefer a med/small DW foil to keep up with fast bumps and to connect the tricky stuff. Upwind is better as well

Anything surfy at our local just gets left behind by the fast swells and you need to relaunch the parawing quick before you slow too much. Downwind foils work best for us.

I would say KT, Code, Axis.
When parawinging it’s all about matching your foil to the bumps you are riding.
KT gets you the biggest range and best low end (with reasonable sized foil).
Code gets you all around performance.
Axis gets you the best absolute low end.

Remember the most amount of people (and thus the biggest market) riding mediocre wind swell so you’d have to choose a foil company that can play to that.

Stoked on how this came out!
I was worried when we went through the idea, but it’s what I thought was going to be super clean and more compact when packed away and riding and I could not be happier with outcome.
Thoughts?

Seems to fly very well, not one collapse/wad in the vid though.

Did a couple similar to a Dwing 4.2.

Interesting. I always liked the idea of stashing it from the side like with Sam’s belt, although it seems to work better with no battens in the LE, at least for that stiffer neoprene instead of stretchy lycra?

One thing that remains unsolved yet is where to stow a second wing..especially when wet they are too heavy to constantly have around your waist, keep sliding down…i put it in a little drybag and strap it to my back on a manera vest.. takes too much time to switch pw though and sometimes the drybag gets loose..got a drybag with own shoulder straps and extra loophole straps now, haven’t tried yet..

In a set of bandolier’s around your waist or chest obviously.

Any reviews of the flysurfer pow yet?

I got a North Ranger, it’s been good for downwinding, but I have just barely been able to point upwind with it. Any technique tips for getting the most upwind angle out of a parawing?

Or is, “Fly it as far forward as it will go without collapsing the leading edge,” about all there is to say?

The most recent foilrat review is of the ranger. He loops the front line once around the bar and says this improves upwind angle considerably. Hard to assess from the video.
