I’m a bigger dude - 95 kg - and we have really light winds here. If I could get a 6.5 meter, that might bring the low-end down enough for me.
Everyone says you have to learn in higher winds and I heartily agree but realistically I have too many commitments to drive much to find better winds.
The concerns about what’s easy to learn on seem overblown to me? I’m not a great foiler and I was up and foiling and gybing a small foil my first day on the PR v1 4.3. The trick is to go when it’s windy and be plenty powered. For a beginner I agree upwind is important because you’re making mistakes and losing ground.

If I get blown downwind with the parawing, at least I’m not paddling or walking back upwind with a huge wing behind me. Gamechanger!

Does anyone have a recommendation for a “largest size” parawing given I’m 75kg 165lbs? I would prefer to upsize the board and/or foil rather than go larger with the pararwing, and I have a 100L narrow downwind board to use.
I have less experience with parawing, but with winging I can pump up smaller 4-5m wings in really light winds, and don’t really like the larger ones.
I’m really interested in seeing more of the afterburner. I’m reluctant to get the S3 after buying a 5.3 paia. I can use it, but it’s annoying with the tip collapses all the time.

More a question of your wind conditions. If I were that size I would probably go with a 4.5m max. Im 80kg and biggest size is a 5m which can get me up in the weakest conditions I would realistically want to ride and I could go smaller if I wanted to use a DW board. I go down to my 4m as soon as I can which is usually around 17 knots (+/- depending on the other components of gear).

4m ish is probably the sweetspot for many brands’ average day use.

Yeah, I know it’s a bit subjective. I’m in southwest Florida so winds are on the lighter side. I have wings and a Nacra sailboat to enjoy if the winds are really light. The larger sizes seem less fun because of the narrower wind range and annoyance of the large size.

PRv1 is very good. It’s the most stable one in my quiver.
This sport is annoyingly gear dependent though. I got a used Naish Morph and it’s the worst crap ever. My small wing is a BRM kahana and it’s very twitchy. I got a used frigate v1 and that one is nice and stable like the prv1 but it’s not very responsive in light winds which makes gybes hard.

Yeah, the PowerPacks are absolutely fine upwind. I have both PRv2 and PP and for 1-2 mile upwinders the difference is not enough to be an issue for me. I do have GPX files and use FoilRun to evaluate my tracks and the difference is not very significant to me in my upwind legs. While it’s true the PRv2 is faster upwind I prefer the handling of the PP and will choose it every time if I have the size to match the conditions. That said, if I were doing 10 mile upwinds I would likely feel differently and prefer the PR.

At 165lbs definitely don’t go bigger than a 5m. Heck, I would say, no bigger than a 4.5. I’m in San Diego (light winds) and my biggest is a 5M and I’m 185lbs. Doubtful I’d go bigger than that. I’ve found out that if it’s so light that I can’t run my 5M PW comfortably, I’d rather save the day with an inflatable wing anyway. In which case, I’d be on a 5.5 at the most.

I feel like the PRv2 should have been named the PPv2, and the Afterburner should have been the PRv2. Would have saved a lot of confusion and disappointment 
I’m not totally mad though. Afterburner is a much better name for a wing than Pocket Rocket…

Thanks for the conformation, I feel like at some point bigger parawings are just for heavier riders. Unless you can just buy a ton to cover a large range.
