Good podcast discussing the surf foils. Flux and Code sounding very good. Can’t wait to try the 810x back to back with the Silk 850 and maybe even get a look at a Flux when they land in the UK
A little chat with @JoshKu about some new gear by code. Includes some tuning insight with the new X foils.
Actually a MR60, but yeah, those ranges of AMASS connectors are pretty much a de facto standard in the RC or eSk8 industry. Well designed, easy to use, reliable, and affordable. That particular one would be a bit under dimensioned for a full efoil application though.
i think they should be nice enough so that the FB 1750 wing can be used with like the uhm hm or alu !! ![]()
would be very nice i hope so!!! i have UHM want the fb 1750 dont want to buy new stuff
Para wings are all in development, so not much to see here. Naish , north , flow, Duotone had stand out v2 / new models the looks great.
New surf foils are all the rage.
Foil drive is going no where ! Here to stay!
It’s all material science, with brands trying to keep price point as consumer as possible.
Boards are getting better, learning a lot from parawing pop ups, as they need to be ultra efficient.
Wing tech is all in the racing. Surf wings ( hand wings) are still at a stall but Duotone and F-one taking charge, f-one has a history in a surf wing ( hand wing)
everyone has a 11mm mast they are working on. Take note, because its awesome. But they are going to be ![]()
No DW boards at the show, total switch to the last 2 years, where it was all development in DW SUP boards.
it’s all moving to parawing Boards that have a total cross over to wing. Frank stole the show with axis new mid lengths in my opinion. Loved it , but love Frank!
There is a large push in safety from all brands. Awesome to see. We need to be wearing more safety gear as it becomes easier / more comfortable and coooooooler to wear.
Race foils are for the elite. But they are all moving forward, small market for consumers.
Lots of stuff in the kite world. But you don’t care!
Why didn’t you use the jet to help get that 40 liter out of the water? Better with less weight?
It was so windy, I just sized up the parawing. I brought the jet and the batteries with me, but just used the board with the foam insert the whole trip because the wind was blasting. Not worth having the extra weight if you don’t need it.
Was tempted many times to go jet in, but it was so much fun paraDW.
I have done it here in Puerto Rico, light wind, 3.6m with the jet assist. Worked well. But think i would have been better off with the 65L KT.
But I wanted to test it in a travel setting. One board quiver. I would have worked out if the wind was lighter and there was a prone spot available.
Happy with the results! No jet, just the butt plug raw! The launch pad powered or not tracks the sessions on foil.
What were some of the new safety products?
Not at AWSI but I spotted Kai with this helmet:
and ordered one for myself:

I’ve hated wearing helmets for a while since getting a bad neck snap from a fall where the water grabbed the helmet. This thing though… vanishes on my head, never needs to be adjusted after a fall, never grabs the water. Absolutely love it.
Is the Oakley really better than a decathlon soft helmet? I feel like the risk of hitting something solid is low for me, the only big impacts could be from going very fast kitefoiling and hitting the water hard which kinda hurts my neck, and is not something I can see a helmet helping with
Bought into the craze of the Decathlon helmet, it’s cheap, light, lots of friends use it, and looks like it does a good job at protecting the head from knocks. HOWEVER, we’re not all shaped the same, I find that there’s some sort of ridge on the forehead area that becomes annoyingly uncomfortable after a while into my sessions, even if I loosen it completely. Wrong kind of oval shape for me, I guess. On the other hand, I’ve got a WIP helmet that I totally forget about, no matter how many hours I’m out there.
My point is, the best helmet is the one that fits well. Need to try different models, and pay attention to little fitting details, as it’s not necessarily immediately obvious if you’ll have long term comfort.
Vaikobi has a line of new float vests. High viz and low viz. new impact vests for foiling with or without harness. New impact caps with bucket and hats.
Ion had a line of pants/ shorts and shirts with anti Cut material for foiling. Does not help with impact but direct cutting or slicing. Pretty pricey.
Mystic* and others are working on low profile helmets for surfing and foiling in general that are light weight and fitting.
Ride engine has a new real leash that looks really good, light weight and about 8ft of line to keep the board away from you. Safety in mind.
Just an over all awareness that safety is the future, and we will all be wearing helmets or vests eventually. So they are all working on the space for gear that is more comfortable, longer lasting. It was apparent they all see the future of it. Really happy to see.
Nothing ground breaking, just a vibe we got.
I really couldn’t tell you that. I’m sure there’s safety tests that can be done etc. What I love about the Oakley is the definitive feeling of not wearing a helmet. It’s breathing everywhere all the time and I assume that the overall openness of the helmet means it’s far less likely to ever catch/scoop water on a fall and jerk my neck.
Agree.
This stuff sounds interesting. I think there is a line of Florence trunks that might have this too.
I was super impressed that Ion is coming out with the anti cut material. Unfortunately I did not physically see them, but I believe they will be good. Definitely pricier than regular board shorts but not that long ago Outerknown was selling board shorts for almost $250. Or at least trying to. Interested to see where this safety side of the business goes.
For the same price you can buy an entire anticut suit that covers all body parts except for the head, hands and feet.
if you happen to know of a link of something you could wear in the water it would be super helpful.
This is what I have been wearing since last year.
Under a wetsuit (temperature neutral) or on its own with a boardshort on top in tropical weather (it’s mix Lycra& Dyneema so it’s both cooling and UV protectant).
Main negative is it’s rougher than Lycra and feels a bit abrasive in high friction areas after several hours of continuous use (like the knees from climbing back on the board)
Tested many times against Gong sharp trailing edges lol.
There are other manufacturers and models and I haven’t tried due to cost of these suits and no physical stores nearby.

appreciate that. I will pass this info to some people that have had a few close calls with those wing tips.
