how far do you think you’d need to swim?

I used to ocean lifeguard. I think most people on here with a day or two of training can manage a mile ocean swim in fins - it’s all a bit of stroke mechanics, determination, and the knowledge that it’s possible.

This is going to sound lame/paranoid since the odds are still low, but this looks like another good shark deterrent for an attack coming from beneath like that tiger shark one above.

You’ve gotta think of yourself as a fighter pilot. What is my water depth? What are the threats (types of sharks)? They mostly like to come from behind or the side but if I’m in deep water, they could come from beneath. Obviously the clarity of the water will affect the effectiveness.

The other concept I poasted above was using LEDs to distort your outline from below. $$

New safety tip:

If you have a PFD or running vest with stuff in pockets like phones, water, gels, tools.

Shake the shit out of it before you put it on, see what falls out. If you have a busy run you can bet that it will find it’s way out on the water (or just me? i crash a lot)

I haven’t ever had something fall out, I additionally have my tool and phone tethered to the PFD inside the pocket just in case though

Yeah all my stuff is tethered too. I had a yard sale crash where my bladder, phone and tool came flying out. I think zips are the ideal for the phone
