I’ve only heard bad things about it, and how much better is the v2 compared to the v1, but it’s good to know that it’s at least usable.
For sure usable… my buddy had the same one in the 3m size and was always killing it on it
Second the recommendation go start by winging. I’ve found parawinging to be a humbling experience. Can’t imagine learning without knowing how to wing - maybe if the conditions were perfect. Guess this doesn’t apply if the parawing is substituting for a paddle up for downwind, but for anyone expecting to get upwind there is a learning curve.
I’m on a 75L board at 78KG and have PT Skin 2.4, 3.0, 4.0 and parawinging has been a struggle even with strong, albeit very gusty wind.
I have about 4,400 NM recorded winging.
I was going back and forth between the 2.4 and 3.0 parawing and struggling to get on foil, getting pulled downwind, getting pulled off the board when on foil during gusts even when hooked in. Did the walk of shame over and over. Pumped up a 3.0 wing and went back out to sanity check the situation and it’s back on easy mode - handled gusts like they were nothing, got on foil every try.
I’m determined to figure out it, feel like I’m just missing finesse and muscle memory, but glad I’m starting knowing how to wing.
I have the F-One Quest 4.0 and have found it to be great for learning how to parawing. For reference I have a strong wing and sup surf foiling background but have never kited. Day 1 one the Quest I was able to get on foil, stay upwind, and jibe without too much difficulty. Having 2 sets of bridle lines rather than 3 has made the inevitable tangles easier to manage as well.
Board/Foil is key though. I used a 6’1" x 23x 105L and a 1200cm foil for day 1 and didn’t have any issues. If I had tried a smaller wing board and a 700cm foil I would have been on the struggle bus all afternoon.
I still think that starting with an inflatable hand wing will save you a lot of time and frustration, but if you want to jump right in the Quest is a good option.
Thank you for the response and help! The quest does seem like the a really good option! What wind spend do you use the 4.0 in?
I’m 70kg and have used my Quest 4m between 15kn (have to be patient to get going) all the way to 33kn (to it’s credit it still got me upwind and held it’s composure considering how overpowered it was)
18-26kn or so it probably the sweet spot for me
ive asked the exact question several month ago when i started to pw, i found through research that the pt skin was the best parawing besides ultra niche brands like Elf. I found this as a consensus fron the FB parawing group. I am wary of all the brands that have huge advertising budgets and pay people like james casey or gav hydrofoil, i came close to buying the frigate because it was supposed to be the best, but according to the FB group it wasn’t, and im glad i went with pt skin, i now have around 4 of them with 2 of them as hybrids. So far i have not seen anything that is better that the experts on the FB group thats better than pt skin in terms of quality and value (besides the hybrid), so all these other brands mentioned here just seems like noise.
Had three more sessions that went better. Two sessions with steady wind with the 4.0 with enough power to get on foil and gusts that weren’t ripping me off the board. Last session on a 3.0 was gusty, but still mostly successful - credit muscle memory and pointing upwind more in the gusts.
Starting to understand I need to maximize starting efficiency to use the smallest possible parawing - different technique compared to winging it will take some time to learn.
I did get the parawing folded up and downwinded the lake a few times - so much better without a wing in the way!
Riding Code 850S and 1130S. Feels more comfortable on foil on the 850 whenever I get overpowered, but the 1130 needs a lot less board speed to get on foil.
POW v2 in May would be very interesting. Please eloborate!
After some 20 years kiteboarding with soft FS and 10 years snowkiting with the FS Peak single skin, I like the brand
Looking for a freeride parawing with good low end grunt as I mostly ride on an inland lake The POW is a good fit, but the 3 line bar feels a bit dated
One thing I’ve noticed going from the pocket rocket v1 to the Quest is that there is a difference in perceived low end between the wings only due to the fact that the powered sweet spot is broader on the Quest. I’m not sure if there is really more “low end” in the sail, but whereas the pocket rocket felt powered at specific takeoff angles, I find the quest feels powered across a broader spectrum of angles. This results in better low end for me since I can take off with my board/foil oriented to capture the wave power more efficiently. Kind of a nuance but it’s been interesting for me to experience going from one brand to another. I’m really liking the quest personally and find it very intuitive and the upwind is actually quite good.
