Hi all, I’m sure this has been posted about elsewhere but can’t find it. I’ve been learning to pump on my FD setup, using either 180 or 220hax wings. I’ve found I can consistently get pump runs about 20-30 seconds long but can’t get beyond that. Not sure if it’s fitness, technique (combo of the two?). I find I lose speed and can’t recover it. Any thoughts or tips on how to extend the range/maintain and build speed?
Without seeing video, I would guess your problem is your technique. This is usually the biggest problem people have with their pump technique,

a sponsored rider told once that its also a matter of building the muscle. kinda agree with that. its not just a matter of technique, you grow into it
That’s a good point, getting some video of myself to study is probably a good next step
Mast height is key. Keep that foil high in the water. Keep a steady cadence with your pumps and try to keep the pumps shallow if that makes sense. More like light taps rather than big up-and-down swoops. Any speed you lose, you have to regain by finding the energy on the bumps again or by pumping back up to a better mast height. Those are bigger foils and forgiving at lower speeds so you will be able to keep them going with some practice. Good luck
