Curious what everyone is running regarding a parawing quiver. In a perfect world I would have 3 paras but if you were to build a 2 para quiver what would it be? Avg wind at my local is 16-25mph. Currently running the pocket rocket v2 4.3 and that handles the low end well (highly recommend). Anyone skipping sizes and going with a 3m?
Running 3.6 - 4.3 - 5.7
I tried 3.0 - 4.3 when the PRv1 first came out but it was too extreme of a jump for me, could be nuking for the 4.3 but couldn’t get the 3.0 going at all.
My cheap ass has been doing a 4.2 and a 2.5. Worked pretty well for me for about a year. Just got a 3.5 to fill the middle gap but haven’t used it yet in the soft summer time southerlies. If you strap in it drastically increases the top end of the wind window. Coming from a kite background you can really lean into it when over powered
I use a 4.7m Frigate and 2.5m POW quiver. Ideally I’d also have a 3.5m Frigate or 3.6m PRv2 in there but still waiting on the Frigate 2.
4.7m Frigate handles 8-22 (but can be pushed to 25 or a bit higher)
2.5m POW gets me on foil in 15 but doesn’t go upwind well until 17 or 18 and not sure when it really tops out
My ideal quiver is 2.5m, 3.5m, 4.7m Frigates though, but damn those prices.
5m pow, 4m frigate, 2.5 pow.
Buying new would probably have done frigates in 4.7, 3.5, 2.5. Switching between pow and frigate takes some getting used too, they fly very differently. The gap between the 5 and 4 is actually worse than between the 4 and 2.5. Big pw being over powered really sucks, the 4 up to 25 knots is relatively easier.
5m POW, 4m POW, 4m Frigate, 2.5m POW
5m is really a light wind / safety wing if and when eventually the wind drops. 4m (POW/Frigate) kinda the workhorse size in so cal. 2.5 pow is fun size when its 17–>30kt.
Ive been getting by with 3m, 3.6m, and 4.3M pocket rocket V2, i feel very well covered for California with that quiver, im thinking of ordering a 2.4m for my hood river trip as i have encountered 40-50mph winds where i was trying to get back upwind after many laps to the bottom and it would have been so much better to be able to drop down to the 2.4m, rare in cali but happens more offten in the Gorge.
What wind speed are you dropping from your 3.6 to your 3?
Quest 3, 4 and 5. The 3 and 5 doesn’t overlap at all and wind at my local spot varies too much for a smaller quiver. With a two pw quiver I’d either miss 50% of the not so windy days or those 5% that really counts.
The quest is a great pw by the way. Used to run frigates and for me the difference is pretty big. Much better depower and easier to use. And the bar is not actively trying to separate my fingers from my hand when overpowered.
I went 3.6 and 2.4 prv2 and was able to bridge the gap pretty easily. Unfortunately the 2.4 prv2 was nothing like the v1 and pretty unusable for me in the gorge. I switched to the 2.4 777 skin which has been great in nuker winds but is harder to bridge from the 3.6 prv2. I’ll have the two smallest 777 LTX. sails soon and hope those crush in the gorge wind.
Interested in your findings on the 777 LTX. I have the 2.4, 3.0, 4.0 777 skin. Our wind in the midwest is probably gustier than the gorge so it’s easy to get overpowered, especially riding a smaller foil that needs more speed to get going.
Wonder how they compare to the S3.
Me too. The 3.1 hybrid maxed out in the 45ish knot range and the 2.4 skin maxed out at about the same or maybe a bit less. So, quite hopeful for the LTX to be a little more nimble than the hybrid with excellent top end.
Windy out here in the Eastern gorge today. I just had a great session on the 1.9m PRv2. I would say don’t skip the smallest wings, they will give you confidence when it’s really blowing. The 2.4m Power Pack was too much for me in the same conditions and I would have been struggling without the 1.9m.
I know the question was about the ideal quiver with a few wings but in my experience there’s no substitute for having the right size for the conditions.
Into our windy season and trying to restrain myself, not be impulsive replacing my small V1 PR.s. I’m waiting on the LTX as I think it may fit my wants/needs getting some kind of range/stability in extreme conditions. Hurry up with that review ![]()
I’m a 100kg riding around Ålesund, Norway. Gusty and choppy seas with many headlands and islands.
7.3m PT skin, 5.4m PT skin (daily driver), Hybrid 4.3m (can ride in over 30knots), Plume 4m (no tangles, super easy and a tonne of fun), POW 2.5m
At my weight I haven’t used my POW 2.5m much and can hold my hybrid down whilst a 3m parawing from another brand would be collapsing.
To the original poster, ask AI for the average wind per year at your local spot then factor in your ability and foil choice. Then you can get 2 parawings that will cover most of your days.
The small v1’s are all time greats IMO! I think my 2.4 and 3.1 LTX ship on July 3rd. Very excited to get going on them as I’ve enjoyed my time on the 2.4 skin and 3.1 hybrid. Probably worth doing a “First Turns” edition of the review to get it out quick for folks. ![]()
What was the issue making the 2.4 prv2 unusable for you? I only have a 3.0 prv2 right now, and was considering picking up a smaller size.
Review will go live this week and will discuss it there. I LOVE the 3.6m v2 but the 2.4m… I’d demo that one first if I were you.
For what it’s worth I have the PRv2 in 3.0m and 1.9m. I struggle a bit with the 3.0 and much prefer my PowerPacks in 2.4m and 3.6m to the PR 3.0. The 1.9m PRv2 is a delight, I love it and don’t notice any of the issues I have with the 3.0. It’s not that the 3.0 is bad, it’s just much more unstable and prone to tangles and harder to jibe than the PP in my experience. I’m also pretty short so the line length and canopy length is a big deal to me, the high aspect PR means that the lower edge of the 3.0 is often really close to the water and catches a lot. The PPs are just much easier to handle and I don’t notice a big compromise in upwind angles. Knowing what I know now I would probably just get all PowerPacks if I were to do it again. I love those wings.
