Yeah I think this is the way, big, at the back, deep. Solves all the issues. (Axis still intent on putting them at the front, which is annoying )
Some wild things going on here, seemingly a long running experiment
How kt pair with fone ?
Can confirmâŚsweet as.
The issue is that high Reynolds numbers in water, where pressure drag dominates, are reached at far lower speeds. Our foils typically operate in speed ranges where the pressure drag dominates
Offbeat air reverse thing. I didnât know foils could go backwards that well
that kinda tops it. end of thread
Hereâs Gongâs carbon version of T-nut-aligned-for-cutout-tracks (and leaving the hardware attached to the mast instead of the board)
I wanna see VDO of this!!
Would a board designed to be both surfed and foiled work now that foils are much more efficient? Thinking super thin, super short mast, with a small foil. Build speed on foil, and then hit the lip with the board in the water
Cool video, damn JJ is such a talented person
I think they meant with a small foil attached. I think it could be cool⌠hybrid surffoiling⌠somebody needs to try it, ideally JJF
Somewhere on these forums I posted a video of a guy who does that with a modified bodyboard/kite foil front wing only/10 inch mast. Heâs crazy good.
I ran a 145L board with a 500sqcm foil, and if it canât launch, it really livens things up. It felt like wind surfing as a much lighter person, which Iâve never done. Iâd like to try an even smaller foil and a short mast just to have a skipping / planing watercraft to play with.
I think yours was a shorter mast? I would love to see someone who can build give JJF a âfoil + rails in the waterâ design, where the point is that the foil is reducing friction, but turning is fully via rails and maybe fins.
Hybrid foil boarding
here are some boogs,
Iâm amazed that they can ride these things when the attachment to the foil is via a soft foam sponge⌠incredible
Instead of a short mast, it would be pretty cool to have some kind of âfinâ that acts as a foil. Iâm imagining a foil thatâs attached to the tips of large twinfin fins, Iâm sure somebody has tried something similar.
It turns out it has already been done!
