I think it’s the 4.3m. If you look on FB there are lots of people complaining about the instability of that size… so take my experience with a pinch of salt. (I fixed the battens)
I’ve used the 4.3 & 5 PR quite successfully in strong conditions. What kind of conditions is the PR collapsing? If it’s doing the “jellyfish” impersonation, it means that there’s too much front-line pressure - and you need to move your harness line & hand position further back on the bar. This will mean that you need to point further upwind to counteract the increased power.
There’s a balance point where you:
Care to explain that in more detail? what did you do to fix them? replaced original battens with thicker battens?
The 4.3 PR is a big PW for me so I get to experience it fully overpowered when the wind picks up quick. It is a lovely thing and arguably takes a lot less finesse than almost all other brands overpowered conditions. But like all things that take neurons to control it requires finesse. So many facebook reports, good and bad, on all brands based on inexperience and lack of understanding of learning and the equipment.
Context is always important if your going to blame the gear
I’ve ridden the 5m and the 3.6m a fair bit, both felt less fiddly. These pints are probably what I’ve been doing wrong, but on toeside I’ve found the 4.3 a disaster where it will jelly and then rotate to initiate a gybe without obvious input, but 3.6 fine in stronger wind.
described here, boiling water to reshape, quick easy fix
to be clear there is nothing wrong, it’s just an observation
I have the 4.3 PP as well as 3m PT Skin. Both are grunty and pretty stable. I do find the PP to have a more reliable optimal sheeting angle where you really feel it’s happy. The Skin has a little more vague optimal sheeting angle. Neither is particularly fast, but I’m not unhappy with the riding speeds and angles upwind on either. The PP really seems to be happier to crank upwind the more power you have and I’m really impressed by the upper wind range. I find the 3m Skin gets pretty physical to ride approaching the 30 knot range. Packing the Skin by running up the back lines is super easy and the pack size is tiny. The PP likes the front line style of sliding the hand up to the canopy and it sort of auto-arranges the ribs for gathering without the wing spinning around erratically. Honestly I’d be happy with either PW if I had to choose, but I really like the general feel of the PP when powered up. It’s very calm and nice to fly. I need to decide on a 2.X next…
