Pocket Rocket v2 Review

Guys come on… I was on a 3m yesterday at Rufus. You all just need to eat more cake. :face_savoring_food:

Getting the V2s today, excited! Although I can’t help but feel like the Afterburners will be my jam…

I can’t conceive of how anyone short of Andre the giant would hold down a 3m in those conditions. But I like cake, so I’ll work up to it.

Buying gear just for those days feels like a terrible ROI… until you’re ripping turns in that enormous swell.

Wow! Thanks for writing this. I bought the 2.4, 3.0 and 3.6 V2s, coming from the 3.6 and 4.3 V1s. I have really struggled with the 2.4.

Best to grab the cheap used stuff for those days or grab something from the Gear Library! That 3.1m Paia, while hard to understand, really is awesome.

Thanks for sharing your experience. It seems like the 2.4m may behave a little differently from the other sizes.

Isn’t this what the BRM S3 is supposed to be though?

That would be an interesting test to run.

I have a 4 paia that I’ve only used a couple of times. I don’t know about the s3 but I can’t imagine anything else would be as great to fly as the paia (only probably is how much time you spend not flying)

Yesterday had 1st runs on the V2 3M and did experience some of the up and down “hunting” @Wouzel described on the V2 2.4M. Not a deal breaker for me with the 3M. Really good testing conditions as winds were well beyond the top of the wind range on the OR. side and generally just good 3M on the WA side. Sustained 35, gusts to… who knows at times. Both the Swell and sandbar meters are clearly wildly inaccurate but it was the same as last Sunday evening at Maryhill (meter avg 42). Most of the time it behaved well. After one hour I switched to the V1 3M, same conditions.

Long story short, I liked the V2 3M better overall. Packdown and redeploy is sooo much better. Then, at the very top end, when the wind is strong enough to actually push the PW deeper into the wind window regardless how much you sheet out, the V2 was slightly better behaved. I lost control and crashed with both and had to sit and wait out gusts. Would also add that the V2 “seemed” to have less low end grunt (but again, 1 hour use).

I also opted to buy another new V1 2.4M after recently selling mine. Decided not to mess with what I already know works

Ended up selling my 3.6m after all. Not because I disliked it, but because the troubles with the 2.4m forced me to get my hands on more hybrids and double skins. At this point, and my skill level, I don’t see myself buying another single skin.

I did have a QC issue, seems like the stitching came undone on my PR V2 5M. Not a big issue and my buddy fixed it for me, but anyone else have this issue?

Mine’s fine. But this does remind me I need to learn how to properly use a sewing machine with the correct thread to fix wings and parawings.
