SUP foiling in surf

Hello,

We get waves between 1-1.5 head height. The places we go the waves are fat and reform. Gotta be pretty good to ride them sometimes.

I started on a 142L barn door foil board. Recently I’ve got a fairly short thruster 145L, and I enjoy myself more on the thruster but i don’t manage to catch the reform as well as i could a foil.

I am thinking of ordering an AFS white bird 6’8x23" @ 115L. Or I could go 7’8"X22" @ 130L. I lack the experience to know which is best so any help much appreciated.

PS: I am surprised this forum doesn’t have a category for SUP Foil Surfing. I am not that interested in Downwind at this stage. Our coasts are pretty rugged but we do have a harbour which I could possibly try DW in but I don’t know if 6’8" is long enough board length. A friend of mine has a lot of success SUP Foiling and is an inspiration. Others foil drive and I am just paranoid of big batteries and salt water, like it could explode one day and burn down the home. Our seas are rough, I am from Dunedin NZ
