Hey guys! I’m currently on the first generation 7’2 107L DW board of Armstrong. I weigh 60kg and switch between HA880 and HA580 depending on conditions.
I going for the new [DOWNWIND MK BOARD but I’m battled if to get the 7’3 105L or the 6’11 95L. I know new stuff is more efficient and would love to go on the smaller size, I just want to make sure I will be able to still catch the same size waves and bumps . Any advice?
What are your typical conditions/bump type? I weigh 72-75kilo and had an Armstrong gen 1 DW board 6’8" (or was it 6’10"?) 98L and it was plenty of volume at my weight, but I was using it in primarily steep wind bumps. I like. little more length for faster bump paddle ups
The lower volume board probably a bit more stable for your weight even though I feel like 95l is a bit too much volume for you. The board will seat lower with the waterline and you center of gravity will be lower. If Armstrong have 80l board with similar length and narrow width that would be even better.
I’m 88kg and using the V1 107L with HA880.
For sure at your weight get on the smaller 95Litre newer board. Long boards are only for racing. For surf style downwinding shorter the better.
