3x M2O’s in a row for Edo and he was so far ahead. What a performance.
- Raiarii Fadier
- Axel Pham?
- Kai Thompson?
3 and 4 were ridiculously close.

Congratulations to everyone who completed the race and to those who attempted to. Edo & Annie just crushed it! The number of those who didn’t finish shows how difficult that crossing can be. I believe the someone will do it under 2hrs. in a year or two.
Looked like a great race, lots of intrigue, thankfully no boat nor safety dramas (?), and Edo smashed it again, pretty amazing form. Great to see the Tahitian crew showing some solid form. Mala’e and Trent showing they deserved the attention, great results.
Has anyone seen official M2M and Kamalo results?
Well coconut wireless says that Slingshot is paying Edo 60k+ annually and now he has his own paddle with Blackproject. He’s got solid mentors surrounding him like UFC legend Egan Inouye. Then he has his personal coaching thing, and if you see how he trains and eats, you’ll know that his wins weren’t luck. He’s an elite young athlete in his prime. If DW foiling was an Olympic sport he be wearing a gold medal. Plus when you run into him around the island, he’s a solid humble dude.
Surprisingly the gains in average times between equipment has been large enough, up to this point, in the evolution to see changes immediately. Oahu would be harder but on Maliko where the guys are doing run after run on what is mostly a limited period or fetch situation they know exactly what their splits are and if a tail or mast makes a difference.
Winger drama. Felipe was pulled after 90 minutes like the rest of the wingers. But still winged the race and ended up getting 4th. His instagram comments …
100% - definitely deserves his win. What is the intel on his bonus for winning each event? Did the contract stipulate riding on slingshot gear to unlock the bonuses?
Interesting head to head of Edo vs Kai, I guess clear that Kai’s breakout season was last year.
Compare to Edo vs Kane or Kane vs Kai which both feel a bit more evenly matched
For all the couch critics regarding edo not doing more events traveling, he may want to and just be unable to travel. NOT saying this is the case but as an example when I went through getting us citizenship there was a period where you can’t leave the country. So let’s use some empathy and critical thinking rather than just hating.
Anyway regardless of points, weighting criteria etc it’s safe to say edo is the best in the world: 1. He won m2o, 2. He won after a bad start in bad conditions and just crushed the competition all the way to the finish line. That performance is unreal, slow start to just hammer! All the way. I still can’t get over it. Congrats to him and everyone who competed, it takes a lot just to get to the start line. Epic year of Hawaii races. On to France!
I wish we could see their GPS data to compare overall distance traveled.
Dotvision is available for both races.
As far as I can tell, it just shows 36.6 miles for each finisher. Not the actual distance traveled.
The tracks appear to Edo traveled a longer overall distance than Kai.
Did anyone hear of shenanigans in the SUP foil?
The gpx files are available for each racer. You have to programmatically trim each file because they keep recording after the racer finished.
I have some code that you can run in a google colab notebook that processes and exports summary data for every racer
Nothing like the wingers drama. Guido dropped his paddle in the final section and kept going. Came off foil, couldn’t get back up.
Poor Guido. That would be a hard call to decide what to do as you see it hit the water.
I was referring to tow ups and intentional boat wake utilization for the paddle ups. So many poor buggers had to DQ. So tough out there.
I was in the wing division and saw first hand how many sup foilers were not on foil for miles and miles. There was very little wind or wind swell to make use of. Wingers with small fast foils or underside wings had a shit time getting up at all. All.of us sat for at least 15 min at or near the start
The forecast was for 15kts, building to 20kts in the afternoon and that was pretty much what we got, but up thru the start was squally and squalls tend to kill the wind for 30-60 min as they pass. By 1/3 out it was about what was forecast with wind but the 5-7’ swell was never there.
At the finish was a lot of nice waves around diamond Head that were useless for finishing the race and the finish was way way outside and not very close to Kaimana wind sock at all so there was no turn to the north at the end. By the finish it was pretty flat and light. I was pumping most of the way past the DH buoy.
