Looks like that Slingshot post was taken down in any case. I’m sure the comment section got quite inquisitive (@Dylan cough cough)

Edit: post is actually up

That is not really true.

Edo’s relationship with slingshot seems to have allowed for him, this year, to choose the foil he needs to be able to win.

There would be plenty of team riders for other brands that aren’t so lucky as to be allowed to ride another brands foils just for the race and keep their deal.

Code, Armstrong, lift, naish etc. They all make great foils but are they elite enough in performance to ensure it’s all about the rider?

I am personally surprised that the riders didn’t sand off logos. It literally takes 10-15 minutes and they should be wet-sanding the masts and foils to 1000+ anyway.

At least Eric g had the wherewithal to slap a Unifoil sticker on the f one gear he was riding when he rode for uni.

Slingshot post is still up. Interesting hashtags too because that’s not a project drag board. Yolo, get your marketing in while you can

Looks like Edo did sand logos. But the real question is: what length mast!? I think the SR is only available in 75 or 85 Tuttle. That sure looks closer to 85 than 75. If it is 85, that’s beast level to paddle up a 510.

Ahh different outfits. The other pic is from training, not the race. So we know what he was on but they didn’t go full redact like we thought.

Slingy appears to be engaging in borderline market manipulation. Sure, they don’t claim their riders are on proto slingy foils, but they also don’t claim they’re not and are trying to play it off as their own (multiple comments mentioning F4 have been deleted from their IG comment thread since posting).

Like when Adrian and Olivia painted Olivia’s barracuda in the standard axis paint job right before the Hawaiian races. Slingshot should be more honest as I think most would understand they haven’t had the time to develop their downwind foils yet unlike axis that were actually selling downwind boards when Olivia rode the Kalama.

This is a fun thread. But it will all come to naught. Taj burrow rode boards painted to look like firewires. It always happened. It always will happen. Nothing new. Keep the rumors coming do we can have fun!

Kane saw me comment on his broken foil in another place but didn’t comment on it. I’ll still back him in paddle imua. He’s gotta have something fast in his garage at home.

Eric G rode uni most of the time (& for a long time) and was only trying other brands secretly towards the end.

Exactly. All pro’s do it. In every sport. It’s only fun, it’s not scandalous.

How significant do you think the chunky Code fuse is for normal riders downwinding but not racing

Don’t worry I have gear. Excited to get a clean race and get in the mix. It is feeling really good.

Hope the Kaiwi is mountainous on the day mate :call_me_hand:t4:

Given the rapidly progressing technology in foiling, I think our example here is closer to Torq (if they existed then) buying a Simon Anderson thruster in 1981, spraying their logo on and giving it to Cheyne Horan before the Rip Curl Pro final.

It’s interesting that you don’t see anything wrong with a company misrepresenting the performance of their products through using one of their competitors products.

All the pros don’t do it. In fact most sport people have ethics just like most non sports people. What we are talking about here though is the ethics of the brand.

I’m all for honesty and integrity. These values are missing in society. But it’s possible to hold two contradictory ideas at once, so I’m genuinely disappointed that Edo has sidestepped the age-old sporting tradition of the Paint Job. Cycling built an industry on it. Tennis players won Grand Slams with it (no, I will not let this go!). Motorsport has been up to their eyeballs in it.

Brother… sand off that F4 logo, cut yourself a stencil, and spray SLINGSHOT down the mast. An opportunity went begging.
