I currently pretty much exclusively prone the 120. Upgraded in the last few months from the original to the HM version. Found the new one to be more stable in turbulent water, easier to pump through/ over/ bank off wash etc. I wonder if it’s just the carbon or if they updated the mould. Hard to find any info on lift foils. I’ve not ridden any other brand of foil. Is the 120 (the re-leased version in particular) really that far behind what exists out there today?
Yes for turning for sure outdated. However the original was released ~5 years ago. So impressive to still be a great foil.
hmm, I know this thread is supposed to be about 2026 foils, and neither of these are. But I find the 850S pretty comparable surfing to 850 silk v1 but the code pumps and glides way better. I’ve been back to back riding them same length mast, same tail.
My hot take on 2026 surf foils is that the tails that each brand pairs with them have a lot more design differences than each brands 8ARishsurf wing.
I would semi-agree with that, i wouldnt say silk v1 and code S are exacty the same, but they are pretty simiar (except the S pumps 5x better), but only for small waves. For example, the 615S/142 and the 650 silk v1, they both will feel the same at the smallest wave size that 650 rides, which is belly-chest-high. But once you go to say head high or more the S is just way too fast and you’re not slowing down as much as you need, the silk is just way better because its way draggier. The code S are just too dam efficient which is not what you want if you want to draw agressive lines on larger waves.
Whats the difference between the two? Or do we have to wait for the next podcast drop ![]()
The 850s is my gold standard for fun downwind, but the 810x exists for a very good reason for more steep surf specific
The 850s is too fast and high AR to be comparable
That’s for lift to say not me!
Will ask if we can talk about it on the next pod as we are riding them here.
thanks, I haven’t ridden the 810x. But more based on the silk v1 850 - I know what people are talking about with the extra drag helping to stay in the pocket on certain types of waves. But I think a lot of people sleep on what you can do with the tail. I can put a bigger surf tail on a short fuse and give it 1-2deg front foot shimming - that slows down the 850S just as much with only a small hit to pumping. Or I can put on a smaller high aspect tail with flat shimming and get very good glide. In the end a correctly setup 850S/tail wins for me.
Cabrinha Rebound looks cool, 6.9AR I wonder what it would be like for prone. Similar direction to the F-one Sushi.
If I had the means I would love to have a small foil like this for bigger point break type waves where I don’t pump.
(surf foils, in my opinion, and to suit my needs, would cater more purely to riding waves without worrying about linking more than the wave behind)
Currently riding a demo Silk 750 V2 in Chicama and I would say it pumps significantly better than the Silk 850 V1 - excited to try the new 650 at some point. The glide/speed of the V2s makes the pump way more chill.
Yes that is basically my point, at what cost to how well it surfs. I’m pretty much sold on a 750 so it’s idle thoughts, but does feel interesting to consider what a truly surf at all costs would be like (650 v1 I guess?)
It does seem like the latest crop of foils have managed to find a very nice sweet spot. I’m clearly behind the curve on a silk v1 but I like it a lot
I’ve been on the Surge 890 (835cm2), for a while now & must say I’m very impressed with it. Seems to tick all the boxes for a surf foil for me, it feels very reactive in roll and also has great pump ability.
For me at my local (prone), the Code S series had the pump & glide but I could not carve how I’d like to. Duotone Crest had great turning but I couldn’t find enough pump & glide.
The Axis Surge, (I have only used the 890 so far) - has both the turning & pump/glide I’ve been looking for in a surf foil.
The 750 v3 surfs exceptionally well…
Very much looking forward to the 6xx sushi for really good conditions.
i orderd a 740 sushi just cause i was afraid of being unable to pump the 6xx size.
