Advice for brand line newer foiler for wake, goal to be proficient tow

Hi,

Looking for advice for brand line options. Started foiling last Summer with two trips this past Fall to learn how to tow into ocean waves. Most of my ability to practice will be behind boat, but would like to make 3 to 4 trips to ocean to tow, maybe prone in 2025.

So many options for more high end brands (KT, F-one, Unifoil, etc) which appear to be more geared towards wing/kite, some surf; and wake specific (Hyperlite, Ronix, etc). Rode Armstrong brand gear in both Costa Rica and Fiji. They appear to have wide range good for both. Saw lot of different gear, with some guides biased towards F-one, maybe Unifoil.

I’m OK with investing in quality gear, but would like to focus on one brand this year with multiple set ups.

Looking for advice from experienced riders with similar history.

Thanks!

Look at jimmyjam on instagram. He foils behind a boat and can give you the break down on axis line for that. Probably the way to go there.

I just switched from uni to AFS and highly recommend trying out the silk wings for towing.

If you don’t care about pumping, nothing turns like the silk. The 850 is my favorite wing by far.

For a prone wing that turns well and pumps great, they now offer the Enduro line which is also a favorite.

I am looking at AFS, F-One, and KT lines. People have commented that the KT Nomad and Atlas have better low end. Do you think having a better low end is beneficial for earlier experience and working on carving turns?

If you’ll be paddling in / prone foiling in tiny surf then low end absolutely matters. But for towing not at all

Silk does not have great low end if that’s what you are prioritizing.

Thanks Matt

I may run with a KT HA with Foil Drive to practice pumping. I’m think if the Silk for a dedicated surf foil for wake.

Appreciate the advice. Are you traveling to Bali with Bennets crew in February?

I may go again to Fiji in November. Maybe Nicaragua this summer.

Have good one!

Ahh haha I didn’t realize it was you!!! I might go back in November, we’ll see.

No Bali for me. Going to chase snow for a couple months and head back to MX in March.

Hope all is well dude!!

Not sure “investing” in 3 different brands in the learning stages is a good idea. Also consider that all your traveling with the Silks with it’s integrated fuse might be a hassle.

All the brands you mentioned make good foils and all of them will work for where you are at. My suggestion is a second hand (or discounted on their site) Unifoil Vyper for learning behind a boat (150 or 130) and for towing (130 or 90). And add a Progression 170 or 140 for learning prone and pumping. Uni releasing new wings and masts now and there’s loads of very good gear coming available second hand.
