Hi
Learning to wing, know how to prone.
I’ve been on the hyper 210 first gen
I’m struggling.
Thinking it the progression 200
Signature 250
Hyper 2 250
Or the upcoming evolution 235 would help me
Or just suck it up
Thanks
how are you struggling?
p200, hyper2 250, hyper1 250 (and probably its bro signature 250) … all these are too slow unless you are taking about light or super light wind.
hyper1 190 is a great wing foil as is the second gen 190. much more range and not so big feeling.
Beginner blues
Every thing is big compared to prone
There are light wind days I’d like to get on and work on jibs and turns but it takes everything to stay on foil
When the wind is blowing a lot of problems disappear.
Then I’m only limited by me.
Basically looking for something to make light winds doable
Not sure there is going to be much benefit that you will get from a bigger foil. how big is your wind-wing? 6m? 7m?
Prone is hard. Winging, if you’re coming from prone, is very very easy. Any of the anbove foils are FINE to get up and going - all are too big to be fun but that’s a later issue.
Are you on a big enough board? If you’re trying to wing your prone board or a skinny DW/midlength then that’s your problem.
Otherwise you’re underpowered. You have other wingers at your spot to gauge conditions? For learning you should be 1m bigger than a good rider of the same weight in the same conditions. If you don’t have other wingers at your spot and your learning in a vacuum that sucks.
Last thing is conditions. You want minimum 18kts to learn and protected sea state. If it’s big waves and chop that’s no way to learn
The wings are good 5&6
The board is good Armstrong 110l
In strong wind everything works
Light wind is where I struggle and feel a bigger or better designed foil would be good.
And yes, I hope to outgrow it soon.
I am having a blast when on foil
Front side easy
Switch stance is like learning from scratch but also as rewarding.
If the wind is up tomorrow I’m going to try my 140 just to satisfy my curiosity.
When in doubt, use a DW board
