Dakine Foils, boards, wings

I get a pretty decent discount on dakine gear. Having said that, I don’t mind spending more if the quality just isn’t there. I can’t seem to find much for information on the dakine heckler foil/mast kit, phaze board, and their cyclone wings. I have read their gear may be the same as cabrinha? I’m hoping someone on here has experience with the dakine line-up (or if it is actually exactly the same as cabrinha then experience with whatever gear in their lineup is the same). Would the heckler/phaze/cyclone be a solid setup for my first wingfoil setup? Any recommendations on sizes of everything? I may take a few more lessons and would like a kit that I may struggle on at first, but will grow into and enjoy more as I get better. Appreciate any info!

Background: looking to get into wingfoiling specifically to ride waves and wing back out. Surfing background here in Hawaii. Took my first lesson behind a jet ski the other day and now I can’t stop thinking about it. 5’10 153 lbs.

Yes it will be fine to start. Where are you and what’s the wind speed?

What is the discount? 20% off? You could get close to that with other brands and cheaper if you’re willing to look around used. 50% off just go ahead and buy it now.

Yes, close to half off. I’m on Oahu and usually can be quite windy here.

What do you think for first setup?

Heckler carbon 85cm mast

Heckler 1050 or 1300 front wing (not sure if that comes with the fuselage, see it in pic but doesn’t say in description)

Cyclone rear wing sizes 180/230/285?

For wing looks like they only have a 4.2m or 7m in stock at the moment

The phaze board has 75l, but I may just fb marketplace a better board. I saw a review saying this one didn’t last long.

85 mast is fine. You’re learning to wing on Oahu I would error on the larger size. 1300 front foil. I don’t know about the tails, but you’re learning so larger again. 230 if you want to split the difference.

7m hand wing. The 4.2 won’t be useful to you at first. Being overpowered on your hand wing makes learning easier. (the Cyclone v2 was on sale for $300 within the past year so hopefully you’re getting it for close to that price. I quite like the 5m version I tried)

Board, get the 90L size. You won’t feel like it’s too much board for at least a year. You’ll likely skip the 75 size and make it to a 60l size much later down the road.

Just as an example of used. In the foilmart Hawaii whatsapp thread right now. This would work.

7m airush freewing $350.
4’9" foil surf machines 71L $450 OBO.

No obvious full foil setups on there that I saw at a quick glance.

I’m pretty sure you are right about Dakine being rebranded Cabrinha, fuse is integrated into the front wing on those. The frustration with the Cabrinha line is that they never really put out a mast that was stiff enough, but if you are getting it at 50% off you might not care. You can always get a Nolimitz or Cedrus mast later.

How do I get in that WhatsApp group? I’m actually trying to sell my e-mtb specialized turbo Levo to purchase my setup. Wonder if anyone in there would do a trade deal.

Ask someone in Hawaii. I’m not in Hawaii so I can’t add anyone. I forgot who put me in it originally.

Just get whatever you’ll absolutely destroy the inflatable wing.

Am I the only one who thinks it would be crazy to learn on a 7m?! … If you go to Kailua bay to learn(great spot!) you should be on a 5m max most of the time. I would not get a 7m - a beast to learn on & at your weight you will never use it again, especially if you want to get into waves. At your weight on Oahu I would think a 5m & a 4m would be 90% of the days… Agree with Hdip about the Foil & Board size.

I ride the DaKine Heckler foil. I have the 1300, 1050, and the Cabrinha 700. Interchangeable. These foils are the Cab H-series MKII. They are Fantastic foils, and the 85cm Hollow mast is stiff, light, and responsive. The Cab H-series monobloc tail wing 180 is wonderful as well, I ride it with all the different front wings. With your discount this is one of the best foils you can get for your money. I used to have the DaKine Chase board, but have sold it once more modern shapes came out. The Phaze is not much different from the Chase. I would 100% recommend getting a modern “mid-length” board - Cabrinha Swift, KT Super K, etc. Something 21" wide or less and 6’ or more in length. SO SO much easier to break surface tension and get flying. The short fat boards are very difficult to learn on. Also agree that if you live in a windy place the 7m will be too much and heavy and slow and difficult due to the size and weight. Once you learn how to foil the 7m is a great tool for steady light wind days, but you want to learn when it’s 15mph or more minimum steady. I have the Cyclone V2 wings and they are great! So yea, get a 5m or a 6m, and a Heckler 1050 or 1300 and get out there. Great gear. Spend a little more on a current board and you will save a lot of frustration and make your learning faster and more enjoyable.

Appreciate all the info! I just can’t figure out now if I purchase the heckler front wing and the cyclone tail if that comes with the fuse to connect the two. I don’t see the fuse separate on the dakine website and no info in descriptions for different fuse sizes or if included.
