Downwind Foil Palooza Saturday April 13 @ 10 am in Half Moon Bay

There will be a group of people (~40) gathering to discuss downwind foiling in the San Francisco Bay area tomorrow: Saturday April 13th @ 10 am at Old Princeton Landing in Half Moon Bay, CA.

There is a Facebook group with link here (Bay Area DW Meetup and Clinic) but anyone in the area may benefit.

The discussion will be led by Kyle Pemberton and Nick Weighall. Kyle has been leading the charge here in Northern California building lightweight, vacuum bagged boards for himself, and ~ 30 others on his property while charting over 150 miles of unique downwind territory. Nick has been downwinding for years on SUPs and other craft and has the record for California over 50+ miles. Nick and Kyle did a crossing of Monterrey Bay from Davenport, Ca to Monterey last fall unassisted 73 km.

At this point the downwind community is just getting started and the available ocean canvas is unlimited so the more the merrier.

We can report back with any summaries or video from the event.

This ended up being a GREAT community event. Thanks to the organizers David Block and Andy Forquer. The weather outside was frightful but Brian Overfelt offered to host at Old Princeton Landing (OPL) which is one of the most iconic surf bars in the world where everyone convenes after Mavericks sessions.
Treat this like a podcast. There are a host of nuggets that should serve people well ranging from learning curves, to planning out downwind runs and the nutty stories trying not to “cliffed out” when the swell is 10-15+ feet. Enjoy!

Great stuff across the board: meet up, venue, people, info shared, and conditions that day for all types of foiling!
