Ep139 - Andrew Sayre (safety)

In wilderness medicine the training is always around improvising with what you have which is worthwhile since you might forget a kit on shore. You need to practice doing it since it’s not as nice as a dedicated tourniquet kit, but it’s very doable to use your board or wing leash as a tourniquet. If you carry any tool with you, that can double as a windlass. So, you might already be carrying a tourniquet that is integrated into your kit.

Hey buddy ,
So i ended up calling for a similar suit.
Just getting back in the water after some nasty injuries( not foil related)

Would it make sense to use an impact vest as well , or do u feel the suit provides adequate protection ?

Personal choice.
Interesting that Patrice from Gong on his Instagram video about the Parawing safety (a must watch) mentioned to carry duct tape with you in case you cut yourself, and he admits he does.

I have the WIP wing impact vest.
It’s expensive.
Just like the suit, I wear it at every session so cost wise it’s cost effective. It’s black and not very visible.
-no more feeling of breaking my ribs or short of breath after a hard fall in waves
-harness Incorporated (it’s chest level so you can stay hook in riding toe side)
-board leash and wind leash Incorporated
-water pack pocket at the back, pocket at the front.
-50N flotation ($350 fine around here without)
-extra warm below 5C with the 6mm suit (don’t need to wear a wind jacket on top of the suit anymore).

With all that I don’t look fashionable and I know riders riding with just a trunk will laugh (and have laughed) at the lack of fashion. But that’s easy to ignore.

I wrapped a few turns of duct tape around the paddle, seems like a good idea
