Etiquette for Motorized Foil Surfing

Respect Wave Priority
Always yield to the surfer paddling and closest to the wave’s peak. Motorized surfers using foil drives or other powered devices must give priority to paddlers to avoid dangerous situations and ensure fair wave distribution.

I prone foil a very popular surf spot that has become inundated with FoilDrive riders. If a FoilDrive rider is on a wave that I can catch I will go, PERIOD! I don’t believe just because you spent $6k you can catch every wave that comes through. Self regulation is a joke, when confronting most of these guys, the attitude is mostly to go F yourself, or even “you’re just jealous cause you can’t afford it”. I’m an advocate for bans of any motorized craft in the surf zone with people paddling.

I get it, but let’s not push for more regulation… as a surfer new to foiling in general, all the surfers think the same thing about regular prone foilers. Foil boards in general are dangerous especially in a crowded surf lineup. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been burned by a prone foiler pumping back out to connect waves while surfing. There’s Aholes in every lineup no matter what they’re riding. Gotta self regulate instead of pushing for a ban IMO.

That is pretty bad behavior… I FD a ton and rarely find any reason to be near a surfer.
Even if someone paddles out into my football field of waves I can just motor a little further north or south. Worst case for them is I stay and ride with them but still give them priority(even telling them to take whatever they want) and I just turn off early as they paddle in.
