Evolution and favorite tail

The afterburner tale really brings the evolution wing alive. Unfortunately, they’re not readily available and the favorite seems to be the 15 five chopped.

What’s your favorite tale with the evolutions?

I was prone foiling the evo 135 and 155 with the 15.5 afterburner. I hoped it would give me the pump and glide advantage while learning the Kaikoos run but I think the span is too wide and it feels stiff and cumbersome to turn. It’s probably just a skill issue but I’ve switched back to the prog 13.5 to loosen things up even though I can feel the glide penalty. I have a 14.5 afterburner on order.
I’ve also heard the chopped 15.5 AB is the way to go. I tried a chopped 13” to 12” shiv which increased speed and really loosened things up but also made riding feel really technical and twitchy. This makes me hesitant to chop my AB.

I started on the prog 200, medium fuse and 13.5 prog tail which was a great combo (on Foil Drive). Then got a Evo155 (and now 135 as well). Decided to go to get an AB15.5 (15.5 over 14.5 as I reasoned I valued pumping though not sure if that is how it works). Must say I really loved the tail (felt like it gave my wing an extra gear) but also found it stiffer to turn vs the progression tail (not sure terminology but more Longboard drawn out turns type of style). I was looking at other guys who were shredding on the waves and could not go close to that. Then I saw their set up off the water and their front wing to tail distance was 5 even 10cm shorter (2” to 4”). I was advised to go to the short fuse (have not tried the extra short though currently don’t feel the need) and have never looked back. Feels like I can “turn on a dime” so to speak and have not looked back at all (felt like overnight I at least look like a I can foil better on the wave). So much so that I use the Evo155+short fuse+AB15.5 for downwinders as well and much prefer it (more as I can pitch control so quick). I also now use my short fuse+AB15.5 when I use the progression for same reason (pitch control and extra manoeuvrability).

Favourite from prog 100 to evo 175 is a KT nomad 155 tail. You just need to reverse shim them because they’re set at +2 degrees. Then a little bit of plasticine to fill the gap.

hmm. I anyone try the Uni tails with KT foils?

Question: Is it the KT tail or the KT fuse that has the built in shim angle? If using other standard tails on the KT fuse how would that apply to shimming for example an AFS Silk or Progression tail on the KT fuse?

I did w a Vyper … u have to figure out the angle but works fine

The progression with medium fuse and 13.5 are awesome and when I first tried the evos I used that set up. A +.5 shim really made a difference.

This round I’m going evo with short fuse and 15.5 afterburner and I’m really impressed.in this set up the 135 turns about the same as the 140 but with much more glide and a little faster stall speed.

I’ve heard the same about the 15.5 chopped to 13.

Hopefully I can try it.

Since the post I’ve bought both afterburners. The 15.5 was faster

Then the 14.5 was faster and turned well.

I chopped it down to 13 and only had one session on it. And it felt even better.

I know guys who have chopped it down to 12.5 and love it. Must be the thin profile.

Either way, try a smaller tail.

And the short fuse definitely works great with it.
