I have been using contact cement for many years.

I have used contact cement with good results. Apply to both surfaces, let it tack up, then stick and leave a stack of books or something heavy on it overnight.

contact cement is often suggested. I tried it several times and had terrible luck. Until I realized that in California they outlawed the good stuff because of the vapors. There are two formulas and the water based stuff doesn’t really work, you need the nasty solvents or don’t bother.

What works way better and is easier to use anyway is “transfer adhesive”. You can get a roll of the good 3M stuff on amazon in a variety of widths. Choose the 467MP if you have a sanded smooth deck surface (its thinner) or 468MP if the deck is left rough sanded (thicker).

3M Super 77 spray

California has a tendency to ban anything that works well.

Contact cement (the solvent based) is really great for this. I was using it almost 25 years ago, for the situation. I used it a couple weeks ago to re-glue a factory pad to a wakesurf board.

you’re all going to laugh, but there are also two formulas for 3M spray 77. The low VOC stuff just isn’t the same

I just use super glue, fast and easy

I know ! I’ve look everywhere for the “high” VOC Super 77 but I cannot find it here in Canada. The low VOC melt foam and supposedly that the original one do not. Can you find both where you are ?

So I used contact cement. Applied to both sides and let it dry for about a half hour. Then I pushed the pad onto the board and it instantly bonded.

Pads use a 3M double sided pressure sensitive adhesive called 300LSE. You can get it cut to various widths on amazon, for really small peeling a 10mm wide roll works since you can overlap layers:

Clean the area where it’s coming off well with rubbing alcohol (you don’t need to remove the old glue if it’s stuck on well) ensure it is dry then apply some strips of tape lightly to the board. You can then press down the deckpad hard in this area without putting pressure on the adhesive tape outside the deckpad. From there just use a razer to trim the excess tape and peel it away.

While not as strong as CA glue, epoxy, or other adhesive (especially if you don’t prep the surfaces well) I really like this method since it’s removable should you wish to refresh your deckpad down the road. For boards with closed cell foam or hollow boards the board itself should long outlast the deckpad so I think good to treat the deckpad is an accessory item.
