Gofoil Barracuda

There’s a Gofoil Barracuda 7’6/22-118liters for sale near me. I’m doing my due diligence here. Does anybody know anything about this collaboration? Thanks in advance for your help.

Tracks are may be far back. If you ride Armstrong or Lift it may not work for you

How would I know if a board’s tracks are too far back? Is there a recommended minimum distance from the tail of the board? FYI, I’ll be using an AFS mast.

I’m still riding a 8’0"/23-112L kalama barracuda. I think this board you reference is very similar.

My honest feedback:

This board is too wide. We’ve learned through the past couple of years that we get our stability from the foil itself down in the water and from the paddle we hold in our hand. Most people should be riding 17-19" wide board. It will paddle up to speed much easier.

Second: as mentioned above the tracks are WAY too far back. I slam every foil all the way to the front and I still have to move my stance as the board comes out of the water. I want to be riding an axis advanced fuselage (+40mm further forward), but it is just ridiculous how hard it is to paddle up shifting your feet so far back as the foil engages. Its possible, but you will be annoyed every time.

Third (for me): 112L is on the hairy edge of too low volume for me. I’m 95kg + wetsuit, paddle, water, PFD, etc. I think I would get off the water easier on 125-130L. But its doable.

So why am I still riding it? Its the board I have, and while there are better choices I still have a great session every time - downwind or in the waves. And also because I am working on building my next board and its taking a while. As soon as I can get on a narrower slightly higher volume board with the tracks matched up to the float point I will.

Thank you for such a thoughtful reply. It turns out the board in question is meant for the parawing, according to Gofoil, who I asked directly. It might still work for DW SUP, but like you said, there are better choices.

I’ve used a parawing on my board. Width is even less important for winging or para-winging in my opinion. my guidance stands. That said for the right price, its a great board.

I forgot to add that the construction is awesome. Its a PVC sandwich and seemingly pretty indestructible. Its taken a lot of damage with no worries from jamming it into pickup truck shuttles, paddle strikes, etc.

Yup, same boat I’m in. The board I have isn’t great. Tracks to far back, not enough rocker. But you know what? I paddle up outside the FD guys. My brother gave me the board, I’m going to use it.

There are some variables that need to be cleared up. There are 8’ x 21" x 111L barracudas with GoFoil branding on them. These are V1 production Cudas. There are also several versions of Alex built boards, some of which may resemble a Cuda to those who are unfamiliar.

I had the Go Foil brand Cuda. The quality and construction was excellent- far better than other production boards I’ve been around. Much less prone to transport and paddle damage. The tracks are far back for Lift, the track position is same as V1 Cuda. So those conditions follow. I’ve tried some other foil brands and found them to be less problematic for position than Lift.

Regarding size, width, that’s based on personal preference and experience. It’s a great size for a beginner And folks 180lbs+. For smaller folks its a big board.

For the OP, that board does not sound like a Cuda with Go Foil branding, but rather an Alex build. Those vary in shape and size. Probably a decent SUP foil or light wind wing board. Maybe not ideal for the DW journey.
