Has anyone used the Gong Veloce H or HDW V3 foils on here? A setup is only $1200 with carbon mast and Ti fuse. $1000 cheaper than any other brand and its only $50 to ship it here. The Veloce H has the same shape as the Code S series (minus the little pointy tips) and the HDW is exactly the Code R series wings. Any feedback would be appreciated.
I have the v3 Veloce with no complaints.
There are quite a few brands with similar front wings but certainly not the same.
Buying the complete set can save you some more change on the gear and shipping. But there is a chance you could have to pay some duty fees with purchases over $800.
Maybe i’m OCD but i’d add that I’ve had to finely sand every carbon gear i get from Gong to get the finish i like. But I would likely do it with most other brands also. I find the stock finish to have a very slight over spray feel to them.
Does the Veloce wings turn and glide well?
Is the mast flexy?
It’s great, performs like you would expect. Some of their earlier mast 2021-22 (and before) weren’t the best but the last couple years their carbon stuff has been great. (I did not like their aluminum v2 mast) The new v3 stuff is top notch. I still use a Project Cedrus 1st Gen Clydesdale but im not a " have to have the latest gear", kind of guy. Also i was waiting for the V3 gear before I upgraded my mast, which i haven’t done yet. I was kind of waiting to see what other flavors they would come up with. I think they added 3 more this week LOL. They have some mast purchase guidance to help avoid flex. Like putting a 14mm mast with a large wing span foil under a 220lb guy …
Their team represents really well in competition. They uses mostly production gear and win many world tour championships so… You might say Downwind is their weakest area. But with these new V3 Veloce i don’t the gear would be a problem in being competitive at this time.
I was almost always happy with my Gong gear. I had V2 stuff, Veloce and Curve foils. Only issue was a “monoblock” carbon mast\fuse that was super flexy. That was right before all the manufacturers came out with the high-mod stuff. Gong refused to accept it was a POS, but it was obvious when a week after I bought it they went on sale for 30% off on their website…
The new Ti fuses look pretty legit. The results of their team riders in Europe speaks for itself.
thanks for the info.
Cedrus Evolution mast, Gong V2 adapter.
Gong V2 mast to V3 foil/stab Titanium adapter
68kg, I only wing, mostly in waves, favoring long runs and carving turns.
Veloce H M (890cm²) + Véloce tail M:
Very well behaved, great glides, great carving turns, fast.
It’s very thin and lots of work in the profile.
I haven’t ridden the code but putting beside a buddy’s Code, it’s very similar thickness, and esp the very worked profile, there’s all kind of curves I can’t explain from the leading to the trailing edge of both front foil & stab.
Downside: is it’s VERY sharp, while I sanded down my previous V2 Gong, you really can’t with these ones. The trailing edge is super thin with lots of curve in the profile and you are at high risk of changing that profile.
I wear my one piece Dyneema/Lycra cutproof instead.
Véloce H A + Véloce S stab: as much as the one size up the Mwas easy to ride , this S combo was too lively for my taste (only one session mind you) and doesn’t stabilize in pitch unless you go full tilt. The turning is amazing for a AR10, you can really bank and carve tight. Also very slippery feel.
Compared to my Gofoil RS850 and North 850 (both same AR10), the M (890) is a tad more difficult to ride but had more glide and faster.
I’ve been riding the Veloce M from 12 knots (DW board 5.5 wing) to 35+ knots and head high Great Lake waves, no problem handling either ends and any water state in-between.
It’s an incredibly good value considering it’s top notch performance. I haven’t used my other foils since. Really one foil does it all, which I didn’t think I’d ever say.
I’m looking at the medium myself, thanks for the feedback.
Did I read that right that you have a gong adaptor for your Cedrus mast? Where did you get that from?
Cedrus has the Gong V2 adapter
Ok never seen it on there website
Do you have to request it?
@ProjectCedrus looks like you have the Gong V3 now in stock? I don’t see the Gong V2 adapter anymore.
Gong adapters have traditionally been a custom option for Cedrus masts. At this time we do have a limited batch of V3 Evolution adapters available. We can still machine V2 no problem. If there is interest, we will consider holding inventory of Gong adapters, but there hasn’t been a ton of overlap in the Gong/Cedrus markets due to price and location differences between the two brands.
Will chime in here, I’ve been riding the Veloce v3 M front and stab. It’s an incredibly good foil, I’ve owned and ridden axis, takuma, cloud 9, Armstrong, fone, uni and I couldn’t be happier with the new Veloce. The new V3 connection system pissed a lot of the customer base off when it was first announced but I don’t think anyone complains anymore coz the V3 system is so good and polished. You don’t need titanium fuselage, the aluminum one is just fine unless you riding those 1.5m wingspan foils.
Like others have mentioned it’s really fast yet balanced and well behaved. For its size the low end is surprising, but like already mentioned it’s quite sharp. I rounded the tips slightly with sandpaper without any noticeable changes in performance.
Would like to try it with curve and fluid stabs too which are shorter which will probably loosen it up even more for the surf, not that its stiff but it’s nearly 11 AR so it’s not gonna turn like a kujira 980 with the longer matching stab/fuse.
They just released a FG (fiberglass) line which brings the cost down to $100 for a lift style stabilizer, that’s freaking insane value.
So all in all I wouldn’t shy away from V3 Gong thinking it can’t be that good if it’s that much cheaper, that’s simply not true, it’s a top of the line product. The one draw back I have to admit is most of the new gear is only available for preorder which is kinda annoying. I guess that’s part of the way they keep costs down by only manufacturing a batch at a time of gear already bought.
Thanks for the feedback!
