Introducing F4 Foils

Hi,

Thanks for the feedback on the naming for the masts and comments on in production changes. Clearly we can do a better job on the mast descriptions and dimensions. There are an increasing number of masts now with plate and tuttle mounts - in three different product lines each with different lengths, and I think we changed the naming at least once.

Of course we are trying to continually improve the products and greatly reduced the time to market. Generally, the masts and wings haven’t had many changes with one or two exceptions. For composite parts, you can’t change the dimensions without changing the mold.

Foil on!

Same, spent almost 4k for set up. Only to be told a stiffer AX mast will be available soon and stiffer tail. Not something you want to hear after dropping that kind of money.

Aloha @Chrisrad99! First of all… great job on everything!! Loving my Orca’s! I’m planning to make the switch to Tuttle. Any plans to produce and 80cm SR Tuttle mast? I currently have an 80cm SR Plate for parawing and would like to get the same in Tuttle. Thanks!

Well theres the differences between your Zip code in Lanikai (multi million dollar homes) and my zip code in Ewa, we’re just in different tax brackets…where im a blue collar foiler and broke. F4 is great but i can’t keep buying the new releases constantly, i wish I could but thats not financially possible. Good for you to be able to be successful and buy the latest and greatest release of F4 foils. I just wait for used F4 to pop up on sale.

Hi all,

I would appreciate a little advise on Wahoo TE foil size choice please.

I’ve been riding the Wahoo 700 with the 170 tail for that locked in feel the Wahoo gives, and the Orca 685 with the 135 tail for bump riding. I recently bought a 6.5m double skin race wing and absolutely love the stable feeling it gives, and now it’s time to match a monobloc Wahoo.

I read earlier that the 575 is a light wind race foil (maybe when you’re in your 20’s and under 70kg), but realistically I would like a foil that I don’t have to fight with at my 45yrs of age and 80kgs. I’d like something that can be used from 10kt - 20kts initially, and any feedback is appreciated.

Thanks.

(Edit: I’m not a serious racer, just in it for a bit of fun at speed).

Totally Agree Rob!

I see the comment of the gear getting improved and people feeling left out. I feel the opposite.
( yes I ride the (older??!) AX 80 now, and orca v1.
Remember before you knew there was a latest and greatest, you are still on the latest and greatest above any other brand or gear available. If you want to be on the best of the best thats better, yes you will need to stay up to date and keep on moving.

Things to think about! If I am riding any other Brand, im buying gear available and to market, their riders are already riding the next years gear and innovation for next cycle. ( let that be a1 year or so away from when I could get it off the shelve). Their new and improved gear is out there, you just cant get it, or will you even hear about it.
You are comfortable riding that gear until the next cycle comes out, so do the same if you dont feel like investing in the next. Its just as good, but not the better?
Its just happening before your eyes with a faster pace in this F4 world. You are not a test subject, you are just a bit more behind the curtain, and if something can be improved after 6 month why not? should they Wait and keep producing gear they know they were able to improve by 5%? I feel thats worse. If I am on the Inside ( I am), so are you, its simple. F4 riders are riding what you are riding.

If you feel you are test dummy, let me know how you aren’t for the other brands as well, its just happing at the speeds you cant even tell, because they cant get it out to market fast enough, before its too late!!

Full disclosure, yes I sell F4, yes I ride F4! For a good hard reason.

Thank you Thank you Thank you F4 for keeping us on the inside.

Hi WingNutz

I’ve not been on the latest Wahoo’s, as I switched to parawing.

But bellow is from Rafael Modesto in the F4 WhatsApp group:

I just tested the Wahoo 575; the wing is impressive—it takes off like a Wahoo 800 and has the speed of a Wahoo 540. I rode today in 8 knots of wind (fluctuating between 6 and 9 knots); the wing maintains flight well, and you don’t need to be moving that fast to execute maneuvers. Simply incredible—F4 has found the magic combination with this wing.

I don’t think he is on the forum, but you can join the WhatsApp group.

Interesting and interested :smiling_face_with_sunglasses: Do we know the weight of that fellow - and size of wing?

Thanks for the reply.

I too would like to know his weight and what wing brand and size he was using for those conditions if that was also shared?

I suggest you join the WhatsApp group, and you can ask directly there. If you scroll down on the F4 website, there is a link, and anyone can join.

More talk about the wingfoil race gear on the WhatsApp group. And it has several sub groups.

Rafael is the guy behind Wingfoilchannel on Instagram, so you can also reach out to him there as well.

Hi,

Sean was on the F4 5.5sqm Makani v2. It’s a double surface wing for racing. I think he is 160-170 lbs. His 6.5 sqm wing was damaged in the earlier part of the series.

Just want to make sure everyone knows there are no plans for new or changed AX masts. We are pretty happy with these!

Chris

Congrats to Sean and F4 for the win! The whole setup and the man himself of course looked very fast :+1:

I tried to join and got rejected due to not being an owner. Only have ridden buddies F4 setups and likely buying for next season.

Actually left a bit of a bad taste in my mouth, they probably should at least indicate they intend it to be for owners only on the website.

Thanks for the update and info Chris. I’m still wondering if the latest 75 AX is stiffer than the original TE Skinny 75, and by what percent? Also is the current 80 AX stiffer than the 75 AX and by what percent? I find the 75 AX to be not stiff enough (800 Orca, I’m 180lbs)

I ride F4 and think the gear is leagues above everyone else

Tbh, this thread gets more action around the DW and PW side of things. The WhatsApp group seems to ping most about the Windsurf and Wing Race channels. And Chris is active here :call_me_hand:

What are you riding that you find leagues ahead, in particular which mast? I’m pretty interested in an 80 AX + piranha setup for gorge parawinging at my ~65 kg weight. But I wonder whether the AX mast is better suited to straight lining ocean swell rather than tight turns to stay in the pocket on gorge’s short period swell.

Which Orcas do the Piranha 925 and 744 compare to in terms of low end? Is span the most useful attribute to compare the low end of two different AR foils?

I would say the 925 compares to the 900 in low end. Actually something similar with the Manta 850 as well.

So it seems like for the Orca, Piranha and Manta, span is not the best way to compare.
