Is Slim Foil Drive a dead end?

Hi ,

I write this out of frustration but maybe it has some point

I bought the FD slim some time ago and really enjoyed the lack of weight.I normally use an endurance battery which is more than enough for me .

The problem comes when I’ve wanted to travel .The slim travel battery it’s a joke ,paying that money for a 20 min surf doesn’t add up .

I was hoping they would release a better version but it looks like their are pushing for the electric foil market rather than assisted .

One would think that after this years a travel battery similar to the endurance could be developed but I guess is not an option for the brand ..?

I had heard rumors of new slim batteries coming. But now rumors that idea has been scrapped. I hope this gets picked back up.

What I do is to turn the throttle power down to 80%. I can get around 25 - 30 waves if using for assist this way and using 10% cruise control to help paddle back out.

Use your arms to paddle? Also will help you avoid getting the typical FD silhouette :pregnant_person: . Or am I missing something and even with paddling it only gives you 20 mins?

Battery power/weight tech is constrained by physics, not something FD can do much about

Slim Foil Drive… I see

(that’s actually quite funny, only occurred to me now)

I have a slim foildrive, which has always had the “less run time” tradeoff.

For me, I only use the 40V slim battery, which I believe is also the spec for the travel battery - and the travel battery actually has slightly higher capacity than the non travel one (!) so might be a slight improvement in my use case, ha.

Anyway, wondering how much more run time we might get from 40V travel battery running the new blue low range props? My use case is just brief power assist to get up on foil so thinking blue props will make battery last a bit longer. If use includes foiling back out after a wave, maybe blue props not as much help on run time there.

I get 10% more runtime using the blues with the HP battery, I guess that would be similar for the Slim performance. So might equate to 2-3 more waves.

I am waiting for the blues also and it will for sure improve.I do have more than enough with the endurance battery what I would like is for FD to push for a slim travel worth buying .

I also heard the rumors but I guess it’s been left aside.

I have two slim perf and one edurande some given the conditions my legs will dictated the end of the season not the batteries. But not been able to travel with FD is definitely a let down .

I was using the slim on a sup foil board and was getting 1.5 - 2 hours out of the travel batteries.

No good if your e foiling around though
