I’m going on a lovely Japan trip around October en route back home to Australia. Plan is to link up with any local foiling scenes and checking out some great spots all the way from Tokyo down to Okinawa.
We’ll likely be travelling with just our prone gear. My first leads will be to look up some classic longboarding spots - I’ve seen some really great potential there but obviously don’t want to upset the crowds by showing up with a foil.
I know that there’s a great downwind scene there, what about proning?
I stayed in Japan for a few months many years back. Chiba has a lot of surf spots and it’s near Tokyo. I used to stay at an Airbnb overlooking what I think would be an epic foil wave. It’s called keio mansion. https://maps.app.goo.gl/ynxdYS7NW3RfQyXJ6
Problem is the waves are very small in Japan overall. That emi location has great spots when they work and crowds are non existent. If you want to go to the most consistent place in Chiba, then you have to go-to hebara, it’s 1ft bigger than anywhere else in chiba. A potential foil spot would be onjuku which is the next break over.
Also follow this guy, he seems to be foiling alot this river mouth in chiba
Keep in mind they are still actively releasing Fukushima wastewater every day around 300km north of Chiba, that’s part of the reason I didnt visit this year. If I were you I’d look into Miyazaki and try to link up with these guys
