KT Foils on Mikeslab Mast

Proficient downwind paddler 155lbs/70K trying new foil setup. Kalama 7’10 17’5 90L. Yesterday tried a paddleup with Mikeslab 75cm mast Stringy custom 63 fuse KT680 and 145 w -2 shim. Not the low end I was hoping for. Popped up but alot of work. Assumed mast was 0 and added -5 on the recommended -1.5 for more low end. Any suggestions for low end? hoping to try 790 today. Would like to have Kane try this setup

This might have something to do with it.

There is no such thing as a “neutral setting without a shim”, this is not how it should be used. It’s actually pretty decently explained in the manual that you have to always use a tail shim. You are not supposed to put the tail directly on the fuse, without using a shim ( KT Foiling - Manuals - Tail Shim Setup ).

It makes no sense to say that “zero shim is actually a negative 2”. The KT +2 shim does not change the angle of the tail, it leaves the tail at an angle that’s built into the fuselage. But the angle that’s built into the fuselage is not really important if you are using KT parts and follow the instructions. It would only make sense if you would want to use some other brand’s shims with your KT system.

After speaking with Kane he said it sounds about right. Waiting to hear from Ken Adgate on fuse and also plan to try 790.

I have a stringy KT fuse for my omen mast. The angles on mine are definitely not the same as the stock fuse. I have a KT fuse and a cedrus mast as well so i did a direct comparison of both fuses on the same mast. The stringy fuse got better when i added a lot more positive shim. I think i added +1.5 or +2. (All in relation to recommended KT shim system settings for wing size and mast length)
