I’m 92kg and currently have an Evo 235 and Prog 200 with a prog 14.5 stab. If I want to add another wing to the quiver without too much overlap should I go with a Evo 155, Evo 175, or Prog 170? Mostly interested in downwinding (lakes, bays, shorerunners, and the gorge) and proning when it’s under waist high. I’m still a novice foiler would it be worth it to add a different fuse, and stabilizer as well?
I’m 75 kg and was prone foiling on the Progression 140, 170 and 200 and I am now riding the Progression 140, Evo 155 and Evo 175.
For me the Evo 175 has the same speed as the 140 with the low end of the Progression 200 but the pumping is more technical.
If you are looking replace the P200 then go with Evo 175.
If you want to go smaller you could go P140, P170 or Evo 155. For me the Evo 155 covers the P170 and probably half of the P140 range but it is a bit more technical to ride.
I ride the Progression 14.5” on all my wings since I normally want to connect as many waves as possible.
Also around 93kg but prone only (no FD, DW or wing).
It really depends on the type of waves you have for prone and shore runners and how you want to ride. The Progressions are better for avg beach break surf in general imho. The roll is better and essier to stay near the pocket. And also more forgiving to pump. Evos are good for clean waves with open face like point breaks, where their speed and carving shines.
For shore runners, your P200 should be fine. Assuming you have the medium fuse, i would suggest just adding a short fuse to the mix. It loosens up the larger wings very well. Keep the prog stab.
The P170 (and E175) is too close to your P200 in my opinion. So that leaves the 155. I use mine for prone shore runners in bigger conditions. For weaker, smaller days the P170 is easier. Can imagine 155 would be the best choice for DW as it has good speed, glide and pitch stability.
On a budget or want to prioritise prone, then maybe a second hand P140. It’s still my favourite (except for the E115 in large surf, but that’s a different topic).
Hi man. I’d say that your choice according to your weight, level, spots and conditions that you’ll use that wing, should be between the Evos 155 - 175 or even the 205.
In my case l’m 82 kg, l have the Evos 155 amd 205. The 155 (paired with short muse mostly and AB 14.5) is a true all terrain, is responsive and predictable when surfing, pumps and glides truly efficiently, and also l feel l can cover a wide range of conditions.
The 205 with XS short fuse and AB 14.5 has been my go to for sup in low energy conditions, also feels a very good blend of surfability and time on foil, the output when you pump is all you can expect, low cardio, low muscle fiber recruitment, glide, etc. The biggest surprise with the 205 was how good it surfs. I have not tried the 175, but maybe it is something in between this two.
Lets see what the others say.
I transitioned form the Progression 200 to the Evo 175 and its been amazing. Feels just as fast as the Progression 140. The glide and efficiency is unmatched. Im covering way more distance then the 200 and still able to stay on the smallest lines of energy.
Yeah - echoing a lot of what people have already said, I’d distill it down to two things - speed and size.
The evos ride a lot faster than a similar sized progression, which could be a pro or con depending on your usecase. If you are riding slower waves - progression; faster energy - evo.
The Evos, partially due to their speed, generate more lift for their size than the progressions. In my opinion, the lift of a progression equates to an evo one size smaller (especially the larger sizes; >150cm wings). The higher speed also means the pumping is more technical, but coming from the progressions it will feel pretty natural (an evolution, if you will).
As other have said, try before you buy, if you can.
