New Cedrus Aluminum

Looks like a pretty slick mast - I like idea of a lower entry point and some of the details around the interior being welded shut as well as a tapered middle. Also, just a badass choice to go with ano’d gold, and I’m really curious how this is forged - seems wild!

Look forward to hearing more from Cedrus on this, whether their adaptors are cross compatible, etc.

All the info is on their site. Already ordered mine. Adapters are compatible with the evo masts.

Rumors that a new carbon evo mast is coming too which explains the sale price at MAC kite.

Curious to hear some rider feedback, assuming demos were going down at AWSI.

I’m currently using their original aluminum mast. Wonder how much stiffer the new mast compare to the old ones.

supposed to be nearly as stiff as HM Carbon masts

Heard both a v2 Evo and a UHM Evo are coming.

Looks like they have two aluminum model, regular and clydesdale. Both same weight, just the clydesdale one is non taper and stiffer.

That sounds great, I commented a while back how I agreed with BWalnut that the rubber coating seems nice for repairs sake and safety but in reality using all carbon probably could have resulted in higher performance and thinner faster mast for same or higher stiffness.

Im imagining the same overall shape on a Evolution Surf but the thicker chord sections being a smaller percentage of the mast and thinner overall aside from the very top and bottom to be compatible with current 19m base plates and adapters. I would very much get that.

I asked cedrus over DM, he said new aluminum mast is stiffer than old aluminum (and obviously the Clydesdale version is even stiffer than that )

I got to try it at awsi and also use classic aluminum back home. I was trying it on an Armstrong 880, I usually use code/ fone on it. It felt great, noticeably stiffer in the 20 mins I got to try it. I think I’m finally going to be parting with my classic system and going with this. I have classic carbon and aluminum now

Yes, the new aluminum mast is stiffer than the classic but more importantly, it’s got a lot less drag and won’t ventilate. In that sense, it’s not worth comparing the two. We’re always stoked to hear from customers still riding the classics, but the new masts are a worthy upgrade.

For those looking for data, we’ve tested a bunch of masts and are sharing the results: Mast Flex: Setting the Record Straight – Foil Cedrus

Evolution Surf has also been facelifted, and now available in a UHM version.

That link and article is super interesting.

@ProjectCedrus Do you have any plans for a Takoon adapter in the works?

Their Pump Pro 2300 is looking pretty nice and they don’t have a good carbon mast option yet (I hear one is coming though) so the Clydesdale would be a pretty good fit for it.

You can purchase a custom adapter if you are able to share the foil/fuse or whatever is needed to design it. When there are major new brand launches like KT or Cabrinha Union for example, we’ll do our best to offer those as quickly as possible because we know there is demand. But for small brands that aren’t super popular in our region (yet) we only make the investment in design/manufacturing when we know we have sold at least one. It’s just too expensive to proactively make a new adapter that may sit on the shelf for a while. We have very limited resources, time and capital, and I estimate at least $1,000 in time, machining, 3D printing, and materials to design a new adapter. So even selling one, we’re at a loss, but we do it. But with the launch of aluminum, and the lower price point, we expect we’ll see demand for a lot of new adapters. The Clydesdale is a perfect pump/dockstart mast.

Can you share which mast models were tested?

I assume the lower half having the length number indicates the model. Was the whole lot tested an 80cm equivalent?

Pretty good evidence there in whats stiff and whats not.

Who’s the mvp who’s going to create a 4 variable data visualization overlaying thickness and chord? Not it.

Just checked on my order which was placed as soon as they were announced. Sounds like they are still a couple of weeks out from shipping for those wondering. Think this mast is going to be a big success for Cedrus. Might not want to wait long if you’re considering one, suspect there will be a backlog once the reviews start coming out.

I’m pretty interested in this mast! Coming off a classic 28” Lift mast, I’m sure the stiffness will be more than adequate and so much more of an appealing price point. I love the idea of the adaptors. I think this is going to be a home run.

However, I’m not sure how I feel about the gold. Does anyone know if there will be a standard black option in the works?
