One Ocean UHM Mast

Thanks for the mini review! Any experience with their wings?

Haven’t tried the wings yet, i did get one of their prone foil boards and it has also been great, light and strong.

Hoi Ben, I’d be keen for a look at yr One Ocean if u are around and you still have it… I’m in the east. Where you?

I’m really interested in this mast as a replacement for my Code foil mast. Has anyone tried riding Code wings with the 78 SSS mast? How does it compare to the Code mast or, for example, the Axis Pro mast? It seems thinner and with less chord, which might be a game changer for going up and over during DW races.

Thanks!

can’t speak to the One Oceanmast, but the stringfellow adapter works great for fitting up a code foil to an axis connection system

Man, I feel like that’s gotta be a corrosion nightmare popping that tiny bit of aluminum between two big carbon parts. The more carbon in the system the more the corrosion is gonna go crazy on the one bit of aluminum there!

My friend has the 78 SSS with the One Ocean adapter (not sure if they source it from Jim or where they get it) and the Code 75 normal mast. He’s primarily FD with 1250R 980S 770R and he finds the 78 SSS with adapter much better than the Code 75 normal mast.

Tried it today. 80+ mast is very nice but the 78SSS was the clear performance winner for me. 810x medium fuse 142 tail.

I just ran into this thread. I wanted to point out that the adapter really works well. But I remove it after every session and wash it. Also, I use high-abrasion tape to pack it tight so that it fits really tight on the fuse and on the mast foot. This usually means I’ll have a layer of tape on the outer part of the adapter on both sides, and one small strip on the inside. This makes for no flex at all.

What is high abrasion tape? I use strips cut from plastic

fruit containers and wedge between fuse and mast.

foil hvac tape works for this application. Anybody who rode gen1 Takuma is very familiar with the product!

I’ve used HVAC tape as well. But the high abrasion tape lasts longer, sticks better, leaves less residue and makes sliding the fuse in easier. Let me find a link to the one I bought…

This stuff. Note, this is NOT an affiliate link.

@Kanye_East bumping the discussion from the F4 thread over to here. I’ve ridden the One Ocean 78SSS, it’s outstanding.

Happy to answer any questions you’ve got on it.

Long story short it’s by far the stiffest and most beautifully built mast I’ve ever ridden at the 12.2mm thick and 102mm chord. It may even be this stiffest mast I’ve ever ridden, even including those that are thicker with full chords.

Super happy with my 78SSS and Stringfellow adapter for Code. There is probably the tiniest little bit of play in the adapter system but it would be impossible to do better and still get the thing apart occasionally. It’s quite a bit stiffer than a stock code mast though I have never ridden a + mast. The accuracy and control make parawinging a Code R series hard upwind through chaotic seas much easier.

At about 300 hours use now and it still looks and performs like new, and there IS a noticeable reduction in drag over the stock Code 14.5mm x 120. I was skeptical of the mast performance debate until getting this mast.

Is it a “game changer”? No, but I don’t want to ride my Code masts anymore :joy:

I have 2 78ss masts. I use 1 for dockstart, winging, and the other for foil drive. I’m 90kg and ride axis. It’s been wonderful, no complaints at all. Extremely stiff

I have spent quite a bit of time on the 78SS when I was riding Axis wings but I’ve moved on so it’s up for sale now.

It’s a very nice mast and very solid, but all that UHM carbon is heavy so if you are looking for a light mast it might not be your first choice.

If you get a bit of play in the mast fit to the adaptor you can always re pot it which will make it 100% perfect fit and it’s a super easy process. This will make the feel even better as a bit of play will end up becoming worse over time.

I redo mine even when it’s not needed as I like the fit to my fuse to be 100% perfect everytime and I never want any play in any join so I redo it maybe every 3 months and it’s stays like new forever. More than happy to help with the process of you ever want to give it a go and it is very easy.

You think it’s stiff now! We have some super cool stuff coming and already the results are crazy good. Just need to get my shit together and speed the process up a bit!

It’s already so crazy stiff while being thin with the short chord! I’ve never seen anyone check that mast on the beach and not seen their eyes pop open in wonder. When you mentioned the incoming upgrades my brain struggled to comprehend what the next level up would mean.

When are we going to see more foils from you?
