Alternatives to legit rail tape?
I put the aliexpress version for $11 on mine. works fine. no peeling or issues.
on another board, put foam tape first, then a very sticky duct tape on top to prevent from dinging.

Not an alternative but I found that if you heat the tape with a heat gun, it goes on pretty well and without a ton of bubbles.

Spray dish detergent-water mixture on the tape and the board to set it on the rail. then use hair dryer and old credit card to get all the bubbles/water out.

Interesting, similar to window tint. And it doesn’t affect the bond?

Nope. helps the bond because you get all the air out!
I used XPEL or Suntek PPF. It’s not as thick, but works well.
