Sea sickness when untangling parawings

Does anyone else get sea sickness if they have to spend more than 30 sec untangling their parawing in seas 1m and up?

Anyone have any solutions? It’s annoying because the sickness persists even after you are up and foiling again.

Was in Maui and up winding/downwinding from kanaha. Swapped wings on the water super inefficiently (paia takes a lot of space) and got quite sea sick. Felt like crap the rest of the day.

I haven’t been sea sick doing all kinds of downwinding, but will get it on boats mildly.

Anyone have any solutions?

  • Try to raise the lines up so they’re level with the horizon when you’re untangling them.
  • Also take a break every few seconds and refocus on other things in your surroundings. Waves, etc.

Basically it’s happening because your sight is fixated on something that is staying static relative to your perspective, but your inner ear is feeling the movement of the swell and the ocean.

Same happens when i spend too much time staring at the bouncing swirling water right in front.

What seems to help is looking into the horizon.

Been there…
I try and untangle for periods of 1 min max and take a rest

Not entirely related to seasickness, but here’s my story. One time winging a few years back, I tried some protein shake with a mushroom blend right before heading out upwind (Laird, cough, Laird). About a half mile upwind I reached down to get some trash while foiling and came off foil. Immediately I was hit with a dizziness. So much that I was nauseous if I sat up. Also lost almost all my strength. Luckily I was upwind of my small launch beach and was able to get blown back to the shore. I literally crawled onto the beach and laid down hoping it would pass. Nope. I had to meekly yell to a kid swinging on a swingset to get her mom, who then helped call my wife. My wife had to roof load my board and pack up my wing. I crawled into bed and slept for 4 hours and woke up feeling great. It was extremely odd and kinda scary. I was kinda delirious and tripping. Needless to say I tossed that protein blend!

Whoa, like mushroom-induced vertigo?! That experience sounds horrendous. I’ve had vertigo a couple of times and it is debilitating. A physical therapist can manipulate you to correct it. Something about crystals that get loose in your inner ear.
