Shrinked Downwind Boards for winging?

@clemop I need to know the dimensions/volume - it looks super sweet!

@clemop Looks great !, interested in the dims and hopefully a Shape3dx file if possible.

I built a 6 x 18 x 40lt for prone.Loving it, it is helping me progress because i catch more waves earlier (beachbreak conditions) so i get a chance at foiling out and pumping.

Now working on V2, i will shift the wide point fwd about 5-10cm and the boxes will go from 34cm to 44cm from tail (futures).A touch more rocker, narrower (17in) an hopefully lighter (under 3kg).

He lists it further up in this thread, 6’ x 19" x 4.9" at 73 L

your board looks nice! i can send you the file. it is a boardcad file but you can open it with shape3d.
I am going to learn how to make a different shape for the tail with the software because we are going to build 3 more boards up to 6’6 and the straight flat tail section would probably touch the water too much with this length.
At the moment i don’t know how to deal with the cut out and Vee like the KT dragonfly with boardcad.

I really suck with the software…i can take a DW shape and modify to fit what i need but no fancy stuff

I shape them with hotwire so i only use the 3DX for figuring out volumes, center of buoyancy and templates (deck& bottom outline and rocker).

first try yesterday… it is so good!
really easy to get going, with the length behind the foil you can really push on your back foot to pump the board off the water. The length and the thickness of the nose prevent the nose to dive when you “overfoil”. The feeling of glide thru the water is really good and remind me old windsurf board.
In flight, the board has a nice pitch stability wich allows super narrow stance and is still really manoeuvrable. I have tried a bit of sharp turns and tictac (like on a skateboard) and the setup is really lively… so for now everything seems really perfect… i can’t find any drawback… (i hope it is not because i made the design ^^)
The board is 4.9 kg, vacum carbon monolith. blank is 20kg

These Konrad STRYK boards are some of the highest aspect wing boards I’ve seen.
5’0 x 17 x 50.5L
5’2 x 18 x 65.L

I’m hoping we’ll start seeing more options like this.

Look like direct copies of Amos Sultan prones.

Thanks, I missed those when I last checked out the Amos site. The Sultan prone looks nicer, I like the 16" tracks and traction that extends to the edge of the rail.

5’0" x 18" x 4 5/8" - 55L
5’5" x 19" x 4 7/8" - 65L

My 65l sultan has been ordered, expect it end of November.

Amos nailed that shape. Definitely my next wing/prone board will be something very similar. Too bad shipping is so expensive to the states

IMHO those tracks are overkill on a 5 footer.Extra weight.

I’ve been riding a 5’4”x 27” 104 liter board. Have had a few sessions on the Omen Flux 5’2.5"x 21" 60 liter.

At 78 kgs the 60 liter doesn’t float me enough to taxi without pumping the wing and it takes a little finesse to get to my feet.

Once on my feet it get’s out of the water easier than the wider board. The top end of in-the-water board speed is higher and it maintains speed between wing pumps better. It goes upwind better.

With regard to stability I’m not sure there’s a downside to going more narrow when there is too little volume to taxi. By the time you’re to your feet the foil is providing stability.

It’s been great in good wind, but also been out with a 7m wing and did fine. At -18 liters it doesn’t take much wing power to get to my feet. Think overall I’ll end up on the same size wings or smaller and it feels like the narrow width makes that possible.

Having a blast on 60 liters and really happy it seems to get up easier with the same size wings.

Yeah, 16" tracks does seem like a lot on a small board. But I wish my current 4’ 5" board (52L Reedin) had longer or more forward tracks by a few inches. Even with my baseplate drilled out to gain another inch, I can’t comfortably use the front footstrap inserts. Maybe it’s more of an issue with the location of the inserts, or maybe my stance is too narrow, or my legs are too short, but I’m hoping to avoid dealing with this issue with my next board.

Yes,with 10in boxes foil box placement can be a pain.
Probably 12in tracks would be a good compromise.

This are some measurements i have made:

Foil plate (Takuma) takes up 17cm in the box (from front to rear screws).

Futures 10in have 27cm track length.Weigh 270gr a pair.

Chinook 15in have 39cm track lenght.Weigh 370gr pair (same as Chinook 10in btw).

So Futures 10in gives 10cm of adjustment, can be too little.

Chinook 15in gives 22cm of adjustment, probably too much in most cases.

I think the industry will soon start making a purpose designed and built track sys for foil boards.
With Carbon&Plastic construction it should be possible to get a 12in/200gr system that was friendly to deck and bottom rail connection.

I ordered a custom 6’2" x 21" Sultan last month and although the shipping was $450 the total board cost was $1900 which is expensive but still in the range of many top manufacturers prices. The 90 day wait is killing me though…

From the looks of those boards the wait will be worth it. Congrats!

second test this morning with the 6.0 board prone foiling.
the first test was bad : the tail was locking the board before the flight on the roll axis and the foil was too far back.
Today i put the foil at the front of the box with an 1 degree rake shim (thickness at the back for more nose down) and it went perfectly well.
amazing paddle power, nice manoeuvrability with a little delay compared to the small board and great glide once at speed. Pumping and 2 for one went ok. a bit more effort. I have noticed that i have to be more soft on the backfoot to start the flight because the start of the flight is a bit more sensitive.

the other benefit is the mindset : i know i have good paddle power so i went at the outside waiting for sets. with the ability to move quickly on the line up. and to paddle out quickly. So i was more relax more in the wait than with the smallboard.

Kane is sure making his KT mid length look good

Identical tail and nose shape to the Flux :+1:
