Solo shot Camera. Any experience?

Has anyone used a Soloshot? It would be very helpful for improving technique. Some bad reviews online have me concerned about it not working a lot of the time. If anyone has experience would be great! Thanks

If you order one, make sure you have plenty of patience on tap. They suck.

I’ve never owned one. From my friends who have them. When they work they’re great. Half the time they just film open ocean though. They take several minutes to setup on the sand before you go in the water. If you mess up a step in the setup you have to start all over again. Most people stopped using them after awhile.

They Like what they like, I have one and it never fails to give me issues charging with charging and soloshots customer service sucks in my experience. once you figure it out it works pretty good but there’s a learning curve and it’s going to take some playing around, wouldn’t exactly call it a plug and play type camera. a lot of times I don’t have the patience for it loading and spinning in circles on the beach calibrating when I want to get in the water, other more patient guys i know use them all the time. IMO I’ve had more success learning from other guys in the water, probably going to sell mine at some point, haven’t used it in a year or two. Oh, and if it’s windy you’re gonna have very shaky footage

I had one a few years back and while I occasionally got some awesome shots, 75% of the time it would just lose me and film the open ocean. I love the idea and wish there was more innovation in the space - it feels like DJI could nail this but for some reason we just have a very random company working on it with limited resources…

piece of shit, scammy thing

don’t do it

I was just about to put mine on ebay, I would let it go for $200, it worked for me but you have to do the startup sequence exactly as I have written down, and never update it! I don’t have the login info either.

To answer your question I would only buy a used one and would never, ever, buy a new one, the business is poorly ran.

I’ve had one for a while, they work 50% of the time, every time! I’ve had some success but far from perfect. Most of the clips on my instagram are using it if you want to see it in action. Let me know if you have any deeper questions or concerns.

I ordered one in march and received it in July. It worked great the first couple times I used it but now it keeps stopping recording after 30 seconds. It follows pretty well for foiling down the line on a wave but it gets confused when I’m riding a swell straight in doing s turns. It jerks with the turn then over corrects when I turn back the other way

Ive had a soloshot 3 for three to four years now. And they are awesome when it tracks you correctly. It will film your whole session. They are definitely not easy to get calibrated and set up. But when you do the footage is the best ever. I made a windblock for it so the footage wont be shaky in the wind.I’ve gotten excellent footage over the years filming winging in strong wind, proning and sup foil. Check my YouTube channel Lance is outside and go to the soloshot playlist to see how the footage is. I recommend the product. But it’s not something you can use in any and every riding situation. But for a little over a grand. Its legit.

It is a complex piece of technology. Once you know how ot is working the results are amazing

Lance, what is the wind block that you made for it?

I use a trash barrel with 3 bamboo legs zip tied to it. Then secure it with sandbags tied off on each leg. There is a rectangular porthole cut out for the camera to film. I place the barrel over the soloshot then rig up the sandbags and paracord.

I’ll add a positive data point here because the internet tends to freeze brands in their worst generation.

Soloshot is an amazing idea and genuinely impressive tech. Yes the original models absolutely had issues But the 3+ is a completely different experience, and credit where credit is due.

For me, it’s truly set it and forget it. I put it on the beach, it calibrates itself while I’m getting ready, and I don’t think about it again. I’m getting over 90% solid footage: kitefoil, sup surf and foildrive

If I only got 50% success, that’s still infinitely better than zero footage — which is what most of us get otherwise. No one needs to stand on the beach wasting their session filming. Everyone gets to actually be in the water

Also worth saying: this is a small California-based company that didn’t quit when things got hard. They kept iterating, improving, and supporting their product — and that shows in the 3+.

ps: i think the reason other companies have not come into this market is because the tech is super difficult.

oh yeah. if it’s windy i just lower it down on the tripod and put it behind my gear bag. seems to reduce any vibration for those far away shots.

Mine stopped working, I returned in the was ghosted. Stole my money, never returned the product, stopped responding to emails.

The company are thieves and scammers. Shiity tech and terrible customer service.

STAY AWAY!

I’ve got one I haven’t used in a year, worked well for me, only used on a lake.

Let me know if anyone is interested in it.
