Hey guys. I’m considering switching from Axis to Unifoil mainly for the recent cheaper pricing and the evo looks like a solid all around foil. I’m generally riding the 1201 in small surf, downwind sup and winging. Love the glide, pump, and speed range of the 1201 but the turning isn’t amazing. I was going to pick up a smaller newer wing and tail but now considering Unifoil since It would be much easier to afford more wings and a carbon mast. I was a little worried the company might be going under but doesn’t sound like it…
Anyone know how the 1201 (19mm alu mast and 360 progressive tail) compare to the uni evolution lineup? I was considering starting with the 175, 14.5 afterburner tail, and torque mast.
I can’t speak to the 1201 comparison, but I came from Axis HM mast with a Spitfire 900 to the jankiest 2nd hand Unifoil Progression 140 with a beat up NoLimitz v1 mast and it was so much better I couldn’t believe it. I reckon foils are pretty personal, but it just felt right and pumped easy and turned amazingly.
I think Uni has a DW foil in the works too, ‘Quest’ maybe? So possibly hold of until that comes out.
I would not hesitate. 1201 is really a very frustrating foil, that 175 is going to unlock you, more than anything it’s easier because you can just move around on the bumps, little cutbacks to move back into power. 1201 makes it harder, despite the glide
Thanks guys! Sounds like I should make this change, especially since I’m mostly riding in the surf. Is there much of a difference between the carbon and aluminum fuse? Thinking of starting with the short size.
I have both aluminum and carbon short fuses. I can’t tell any difference while riding. The aluminum doesn’t like being left together without rinsing. The salt water definitely corrodes it. I have never ridden the axis gear but I enjoy the Evo 175 for its glide and its ability to turn.
Can’t compare to axis, but I downwind the 175, torque and AB tail in everything from super light wind to strong winds and its epic. Heaps of glide and turns on a dime. If you really want to spice up the turning grab an XS fuse.
