Hello. I just have a question. Is being taller in height help for generating speed in pumping hydrofoil (surf/flat water)? I’m 6’3 tall, do my longer legs give me an advantage on foil pumping, especially for generating more speed rides due to my leverage length?
This is the 3rd time you’ve asked this same question
The answer is still no, sorry. What additional information do you still need?
You asked on Facebook aswell. I answered you there aswell. If it would help being taller, how would that Affect you? Would you grow even more?
I think it’ll give me confidence to try foiling since I have an physical advantage
The good thing is, it’s a struggle for almost everyone:). Not knowing anyone and YouTube as my only source of Informationen I needed 3/4 of a year to learn to pump ( I was going to the lake 2 times a weak). Eventually everyone learns it. We have someone in our group who learned to pump at the age of 62
If you want to watch tall foilers on IG. @OceanPixels and @laithamk are both tall and rip.
You are never going to know anything unless you get out there and try it. Either you love it and push through the difficulty of learning or you don’t.
Why no? In theory and based on my observation, taller people will benefit in speed since they can create more power and torque due to longer limbs and leverage, just like on cycling, swimming, track & field.
You are right. You have a physical advantage and should use your newfound confidence to start foiling…
It’s not going to make much difference if you’re 5.5 or 6.6 it’s all about the person doing it!
The only real advantages are fitness, level of surfing if doing prone, knowledge of the sea and a strong mind set.
Jon just get in with it!
We have more import things to discuss like should I use the red shim or the blue or is the parawing going to take my foiling experience to the next level!
As a tall person, my biggest regret is not getting out and foiling sooner. I could have started months earlier, and should have.
@Ctsizemore is a tall fucker and he straight DOMINATED our session today and the height was a factor but not why you think! We were riding an outgoing tide river break with much current and his tall ass was able to stand on the outer bar before all of us without getting flushed out the back! Also gave him a little edge Push-n-hop-n-go on those micro takeoffs!
I may have a short stroke, but I’ve got high RPM’s!
I’d say the most important parameter would be weight. Being as small and skinny as possible should therefore be the ideal, giving you more force or power to weight ratio.
Please this thread really didn’t need to be bumped. The dude just wants everyone to know he’s 6’3.
I’d be more concerned with weight than height, I’m 6’4” def notice an efficiency gain when I’m < 200 pounds vs 210 pounds, for example, and also general fitness, I’ll pump longer harder faster etc when I’m eating clean and staying active vs drinking beer and being lazy
Most entertaining thread on this forum, thanks for the laughs everyone!
It’s about the size of the fight in the dog, not the size of the dog in the fight. Pro surfers? Not tall generally but super powerful.
Get out there and have a crack everybody has their own style.
Since muscle power is a factor of cross section, you will generally see much higher strength to weight ratios in shorter people.
As a somewhat tall person, this is my excuse for not being pro at anything
