Trash-Bags (Parawing Lounge)

Careful with those open belt pouches to carry second pw sizes.. they can fall out on crashes when not secured and you might not notice if you concentrate on the other one in your hand..

I now got small drybags 5l (one spare) or 8l (two spares) to strap horizontally to rhe back of my waist harness. The’re SeaToSummit ‘Big River’ , and have some extra webbing loops on the side so you can strap/compress it down around the waist harness with a little belt strap.

I tried parawinging in a normal wing spot scenario with no bumps and gusty wind and not really a wave to ride, it was pretty lame and definitely would have been relatively more tolerable on a wing.

Need to (re)learn to ride switch as well as that is a big drawback, but I think limited value outside of downwind and wave scenario…

It obviously works well for downwind,

what is the parawing that has the best low end? im in a low wind spot, and my smallest handwing is a 5.5m, I am also over 100kg. I don’t care about stashing it in a bag, Im happy to hold it bunched up, i’m more interested in learning how to parawing and get up on foil and riding it like a short-line kite then actually stashing it and enjoying the benefits usually associated with it. I saw a Aeryn Pocket Wing P1 that comes in 6m. Is that something I should try or is there better options for lightest wind possible parawinging.

If you aren’t interested in stowing you can also get low end with longer lines. The Flysurfer POW has the longest lines and supposedly the best low end for its size. I don’t know how a 5m POW compares to a 6m Aeryn in low end but I’d bet it flies a lot better. 6m is huge for a pwing (even 5 is big).

My biggest wing is a 5.5 and I have a 4.3 pwing. If I use a DW board I could probably make the 4.3 work in similar conditions to what I would wing with the 5.5, but I’d rather just wing in most of those light conditions.

5.5 Flow is a very good choice though caps out at 18-19 ish and doesnt fly well overpowered. 5m flysurfer is most likely more POWerful.

Aeryn looks to have thick heavy material and lots of lines so 6m might be just too much of a hassle

this week there will likely be new competitors in the PW game, given AWSI…

5m Pocket Rocket is a delight. See if you can demo one.

Vayo prototype parawing spotted on Instagram.

thanks, ill look into the pow flysurfer 5m, i suppose i should still get a stash bag if it will fit in? and what about the harness line? https://www.kiteworldshop.com/en/273-parawing

Even if you don’t plan to pack it while riding, some kind of stash bag is helpful for paddling out to the wind line, and getting back to shore. I’ve been doing it without one and I find thats when I get the worst tangles - I need to invest in one too. Seems like people like the Ozone and NSI ones, but there are a more options coming soon.

The lowest I’ve gone is 12kts, with a pretty chunky board (4-10 x 22”?), that was with a Flow 4.2M. My Ozone 4.3M seems to have similar range.

I basically stopped winging this summer to focus on dw, and to learn to Parawing. Agree that a high quality wing is more fun for ripping around in the flats — you can snap turns, unload and slash the foil a bit better, you can hold speed with a bit more stability. A modern wing is still a joy.

But if you prefer to just cruise, and are intermediate/advanced, I’m not sure winging has any particular advantage when you consider the faster setup/takedown, the comparable range, the easier walk in and out of rocky launches, etc.

Ozone is nice but quality is meh and its not a good harness belt due to lack of support. Manera looks promising

Not sold on the side loading. A lot going on out there I don’t have time or mental focus to make a burrito while stowing

I’ve had the Ozone belt out almost every day since April, and it’s seen me through some very strong conditions. Still going strong quality-wise, a few small holes in the stretchy fabric is all but still operational. Support is also good up to 40 knots

For me at 75 kg I find that 10-11 knots is enough to give me decent upwind angles and bumps with a little bit of push to have fun on with my 4.2m D-Wing.

The shape of the bumps does matter though as short fetch lake bumps are much less fun. You should also size your foil for the bumps not the wind.

Try a double skin, way more enjoyable in the flats. and of course going upwind ..

What would my best option here be if I wanted the best parawing that performed really well for low end. Gav hydrofoil says the frigate is the best parawing.

wait until we see what AWSI has on offer…

Id prefer to know what is the best option that I can buy now as I’m taking it overseas where I cannot buy equipment easily

Low end champion is BRM.

Thanks I’ll look at getting a 6.2 brm kanaha. Do I still need a pouch or will it be hard to stuff it into one. And a parawing harness line to hook into a wingfoil harness right?

Also the 6.2 kanaha will have better low end than the 5m pocket rocket ?
