Trash-Bags (Parawing Lounge)

I find that a 5m parawing that can fly (12-13mph wind) can get you up on a DW board with big wing in flat water. Ocean confusion 13-14mph wind needed. A swell angle behind you too, helps. I’m 200lbs

based on my experience with the kanaha 6.2, maliko v1 6.2 , and pow 4m - I’d say it’s a toss up between the POW 5m and 6.2 maliko v1. Kanaha 6.2 does not have great low end

would i be just better off with the 4.7 frigate?

Ah that could be true I was thinking more about the smaller sizes I used that had great low end. I’m not sure on best low end for biggest sizes.

Agree re Maliko vs Kahana. The same size Maliko definitely has more grunt.

How about a 5.4 PT Skin? 5.5 Flow should be great too.

what would be better low end? the 5m pocket rocket vs 6.2 kanaha vs 4.7m frigate vs 5.4 PT? These are all in the top 3 from “Gav hydrofoil” so I am wanting to choose something he recommends.

All the reviews seem focused on the riding in place use case. If your using the pw to dw then low end grunt/size to get on foil and pack ability are probably the top two parameters imo. In that case it seems the BRM Maliko still takes the crown, and the Ka’a is probably a close second.

The rest all have compromises, like the pow might have good low end per size but the lines are long and the bar is big. The Ozone PR has long lines and a giant bar.

And keep in mind the Maliko and Ka’a can go upwind. Just not as well as the PR. It all come down to what maters most to you

Frigate pulls like a truck but is pretty good.

BRMs aren’t great unless you REALLY want an easy stow and are willing to sacrifice on literally every other metric. Don’t get the double-skin…

Pocket Rocket is the most well balanced, but some people are talking about durability issues (personally I haven’t had any issues and I’ve been flying mine every day for many months). Bar & lines are perfectly fine and a good length if you like to do a bit of everything.

Haven’t tried the PT skins, but people have reported line trim issues.

POW pulls like a truck and you can go 1 size less than other brands, but lines are long and the bar is awkward to stow.

How would POW go in the case where you don’t care about stowing it fast. Say i carry a paddle with, plan to just use it to crank up wind a bit, stop completely and do a good stow, paddle up? POW or Frigate best for that use case?

Dakine Complete Parawing

Great pricepoint, but otherwise looks pretty gen1 in shape and finish. May mean Cabrinha is coming with a more refined version.

I don’t care about stow ability, I’d rather optimize for max low end grunt and upwind ability. Don’t have dw conditions where I live so it’s more of a new thing to learn and would want to be able to use it instead of a handwing. But low end is the most important due to my weight and light winds. 12-15kn is considered quite windy here.

That actually looks exactly like the BRM v1 Maliko - even the control bar tabs and line spacing….

Maybe they licensed it… and that’s why it isn’t an option at BRM anymore.

If so, I’m glad that design is still available (still the best in my humble opinion).

If you want maximum low end and don’t care about stowing you should definitely get the POW 5m. If you want the best combo of low end and stowability the choice isn’t as obvious, I’d guess probably 777 P.T Skin 5.4m. BRM Kanaha seem to have a quite bad low end and the 6,2m will probably be terrible in general handling, especially gybing.

The pow is hard to handle according to this review. He says it’s only for advanced parawingers. I will consider the pt skin

For the 5.4 PT skin compared to the 4.7 frigate. The frigate is the better PW overall, is the 0.7 enough of a difference to go with pt?

I would disagree. I’m not the best winger (mostly have focused on DW while winging), but my first session, ever, with PW was with the POW 2.5 in 16-18kts, knee-high bumps. By the end of a 3 hr session, I was getting up and foiling in both directions (heel side and toe side) jibing both directions, etc. I found the POW fairly easy to use, quite stable while foiling upwind, and well-behaved when I was in the water. I was really glad I leashed it (at rear end of bar), as it sat on the water after crashing, and never got tangled. I do agree, however, that the 4.0 has very long lines, but foil rat’s stowing method seems to work well, as does Wouzel’s. Cheers!

in light wind, canopy weight is a definite factor. PT Skin material is 25gr. not sure how thick the porcher fabric used by f-one is but reports are that its heavier. so probably more than 32gr?

Wouldn’t the pt 5.4 be better than the pow 5?
