Trash-Bags (Parawing Lounge)

This is a HUGE thread, so I may have missed it, but in case it hasn’t been mentioned yet, the Aeryn P1 is a real nice option especially at the price point. I have the 4m. I’ve been going upwind/downwind hanging with the inflatable wing crew here in FL in light wind seabreezes. Steers really well, plenty of power, decent line length. Thicker more durable kite material. Handle is really comfy with the extra room for your index finger on the top of the bar. Seems like a great all-around option.

How’s the pack-down size with the more durable fabric?

I disagree on the don’t buy the Paia comment. It’s taken me around 5-6 sessions and I’m sold on the 4.5M. It crushes upwind riding so effortlessly that it makes up for the extra fabric. A few extra seconds to stash away isn’t a big deal when you have a mile plus run ahead of you. If it’s blowing 22-30, it’s epic for me at 67kgs on a 55L with 880 foil in.

I’m a year into parawing. It’s not beginner friendly.

I can’t say for sure, since I haven’t done a downwinder with it yet. Waiting on stronger wind. While messing around in the on-shore seabreeze, I would choke the front lines and then fold it in half while riding the waves, then deploy and sail upwind. It worked great for that. When putting it back in the backpack bag after my session, it seemed like it wasn’t going to pack back down very small, but after I started folding it, it fit back in the small bag, no problem.

The generic pod had an excellent technical interview with one of the Slingshot designers, covers a lot, but they get into the parawing he is working on, some really interesting insights.

Key point I noted is that (everyone) is using a material that might get waterlogged. I have found that when new, they are very slippery off the water, but as aged, seems heavier and stickier. I guess that clever toxic coating wearing off

yes, saw that with kites in 1999. Polyester is “naturally” more water repellent than Nylon ripstop. We must be careful what we wish for.

So with you on this one, tired of the Paia slander. It’s a different experience and much harder to do (dont even bother attempting in light wind lol) but when it works holy cow it just feels so easy to get upwind. It’s not just about the angles but how easy it is hold even without a harness line.

Hi dear Zarb, I guess you have mistaken the P.T. with P.T. Skin. P.T., being the first Ram Air parawing on the market, had a retrim in the beginning, while P.T. Skin had no issues.

Just clarifying facts…

pansh has released their parawing ‘the rock’.

After a year or so of parawinging, I’ve landed on the following harness setup using the ozone stash belt. I added a second pigtail on the right side of the belt and utilized a spare ocean rodeo wing leash extension to span the front of the belt. From there I added a 8mm low friction ring and a second leash extension fed through a bit of clear tubing, ending with a j hook from Jimmy Stringfellow.
I like this setup for a few reasons:

  1. Lowers the load on the plastic buckle and acts as a backup in case the buckle fails.

  2. Spreads the load a bit so it is more comfortable.

  3. The harness line can move freely and not be impeded by the buckle, and doesn’t bunch up and crinkle the belt webbing.

  4. Plastic tubing makes it easy to reach for and grab without looking and hook in one handed quickly.

  5. Bungee action allows for progressive resistance and partial load assistance. Not full on/off action.

This setup was inspired by someone’s post on the Facebook group (thanks)

That’s CHEAP!
If it’s good enough it will make A LOT of people try PW

it does look to fly pretty good on the beach … have to say….good leading edge structure and some depower!

Cool setup. Did you 3d print the hook or buy it?

also if you have a harbor freight nearby, look for Haulmaster stretch cord with adjustable hooks (sku 99891) with a light sanding they have been great for hooking in on my flow and ozone bars

When not hooked in are you leaving the hook attached to the bar? Or leaving the bungie attached to your harness?

Leave the bungee attached to the harness and let the hook dangle (or tuck it into the pouch). I’m riding the same setup (dyneema instead of bungee).

Honestly for Pansh that’s not very cheap at all. $558 USD for a 4m.

You can buy a Gong Plus v2 4m for $415 USD and it will probably have cheaper shipping. I’d also trust it more than I’d trust Pansh.

the fabric of gong is not good. its very sticky due to 52gr weight. maybe a 3m is ok. but 4m is bordering on what is not useful. 5m is terrible because of the heavy, sticky fabric. Not sure what exactly is the Rock material but at least you have an option to upgrade to the 30gr canopy material

They currently have 50% off when buying one if you create an account, 60% off two and 80% off for ~10+~ 40+. The “regular” price is not competitive at all, but buying with friends makes gets you really attractive prices.
Having said that, I’m not buying at the moment, I don’t have the skills yet and would prefer reading a couple of user reviews first.
