Curious now they have been out, how are parawings from the top brands holding up over time? How bad are they bagging/stretching out?

I’ve had my V1 Ozones for a year now and they have 100’s of hours on them. Just bought two brand new V1’s (in different sizes) and I can’t tell the difference in use for starts and upwind-ability. The new ones repel water better of course but this hasn’t caused any issues with the used ones.

I’m careful how I pack and redeploy so haven’t needed a single repair on 2.4M (been tortured), and 3.6M. I lost the 2.4 in the shorebreak this winter. A friend found it an hour later with an octopus wrapped around it :joy: No damage, still works great!

4m frigate with tons of use. Some signs of wear in lines and bar, and Velcro on bar. Material feels a little heavier, not as crisp or a redeploy, more tangles of the lines. One of the wingtips sort of flutters and collapses some times.

not bad, and nothing that makes me think it’s time to replace, but anybody would notice it vs a brand new one

I just sold my Maliko v1 that I had since november 2024. The canopy, bar and line still looked great. Hard to comment on the bagging/stretching because I dont have any reference point anymore. But it was still fly good!

What’s the one liner on each of the latest gen parawings? Have they pretty much converged? What is the best value prior gen 3.5m range?

I think the BRM S3 is unique in the market right now. A highly bridled single skin that pumps incredibly well cranks upwind, has low bar pressure, perfectly balanced in the harness, and packs down smaller than any other pw.

The rest of the single skin parawings all seem pretty similar to me but I have not tried many.

The hybrids look interesting for high wind gusty spots as they seem to have a lot of range and stability.

sorry my S3 froth got me distracted and I missed your question.

Best value prior gen is clearly the Ozone PR. So long as you have e good line management skills to avoid its tangle hazard(most tangle prone lines on the market). You can pick up a used PR for 400 or less.

777 single skin or hybrid also appear to be very competent and the hybrid promises more wind range than most others.

I own a mixed quiver of Flow v2, 777 Hybrid and Ozone PR v2:

Flow (3.0&3.7) super stable, excellent douse/redeploy, fast and light in the hands, good upwind. 3.0 is a little twitchy. The gathered 4A lines are good but the extension should be slightly longer and the front lines are sticky compared to the Ozone.

Hybrid 4.3, very good upwind, very good range, nice in the air. Bar feel is different, the center of power wanders a bit compared to the Flow and Ozone. Downwind douse is good but loaded douse on a wave is not the best due to abrasive technora lines. Lines snag and tangle a little more than the others and if you really stuff it draining water out of the double skin is a little annoying.

PR v2 5.0, very stable, good range, good upwind, the best lines. Handling is nice, douse is the best with the slippery/fat front lines and gathered 4A lines. Bar feel is slightly heavier than the Flow

PPC claims the 5.9 m can get you up in 8 knots with an extra line and clam cleat to change the stall speed like flaps on an airplane. Really hoping this works b/c the wind is rarely better around here and I hate pumping up wings. I’d also love to ā€œself DWā€ without having to park cars at both ends, coordinate, and learn to use the paddle.

Couple things I’ve noticed in the new parawing space:

  1. AFS Stow parawing appears to have a C line shortening system. There appears to be a loop that you can pull around the bar end to shorten the bridles. AFS Stow - LevitateFoil
  2. Pricing is now out on the Altis parawings and it looks really good. Starting at $650 for a single skin and $740 for a double (no idea what full price to the US is with tariffs and everything) Parawing | Altis

From that link, I would have assumed that the loop is actually on the A lines, where the bar has a bit of extra length to allow a better flying off the front lines. Same objective anyway, while keeping the bar angle (and therefore the AOA) constant, introduce an extra level of length differential between one set of bridles and the others to alter the profile. PPC does that by pulling on the Cs, Sroka does it by pulling on everything but the Cs, gradually. And on the POW, somehow through moving the Bs and the mixer system.

On that particular AFS, this reminds me of what Tucker from MacKite said on his review of the Aeryn P1, with a second gear mode. https://youtu.be/7ynv1sQpAM4?t=312 but with a tidier solution here.
