Trash-Bags (Parawing Lounge)

Thanks. That’s very good to know. I have a POW 4m… I’m looking to get something bigger but was unsure about ordering a PR1 5m for more low end, since getting hold of a V2 right now is next to impossible.

First flights late last night with my North Rover 5.0. Wind died down after 15 minutes but first impressions:

  • for its size the 5.0 feels compact.
  • Lighter material than my previous Gong v1
  • Stable in flight
  • Very powerful!
  • Turns decent on the jibes once I got the hang of it
  • Upwind felt good
  • Still compact enough to stuff into an ozone stash belt
  • Lines can catch on end of bar which is a bit annoying
  • Backpack system works great, had my 3.5 rover in the backpack and over my pfd and didn’t even feel it there nor was it a nuisance
  • Will probably keep the plastic ring as it is quite useful to gather all front lines easily
  • The depower line is handy to totally collapse wing instantly. Useful but the middle of the leading edge then has a tendency to collapse in on itself making it gather water more easily.

All in all I am pleased with it, did not manage to do a redeploy yet.

I have 5m POW and it has a lot of light wind get off power. its also quite nice feeling.

I haven’t flown the 4m POW but have flown the PRv1 5m and own a 2.5m POW and a 4.7m Frigate. I would expect the low end to be similar, the PRv1 does not pump well IMO and if you have good pump up technique that is the defining thing for low end to get on foil. For low end to stay on foil without pumping the PRv1 probably wins though. My 4.7m Frigate has noticeably lower low end than the 5m PRv1.

I can only comment from a +20L ML, 80 kg, I can pump it up in 15 knots but upwind isn’t great until closer to 18 knots. It’s a solid PW, super easy collapse.

Not a Parawinger but don’t see this being discussed. New PPC Parawing: https://www.instagram.com/p/DYiCqw6TobS/

As my friend said, it’s worth waiting for some real life reviews to cut through the marketing hype (regardless of the brand). Excited to hear what people have to say of the PPC Orbit!

On another note, just got my hands on an OZone PR 2.4 v2. How are people dealing with the leading edge battens? They do not look like they should be folded the wrong way and seem to have some tension to them. Anyone with experience on best way to manage this for a stash?

From having the PR V1s you do not want to fold the battens. You want to stack them all neatly together and keep them that way. The V1s don’t seem to fly as well if the battens get bent. At least that is my experience.

Separately, has anyone straightened out bent PR V1 battens before? Thanks

I haven’t done it but @Matt mentions above in this thread that you can reform them with hot (boiling?) water:

I have a PRv1 3m from a buddy who had it stuffed in the too small to easily pack 3m bag in a hot car for some time and nearly half are quite bent. So far I have simply had it laid out with cloth stuffed into the leading edge that keeps the battens near their factory position and keeping it in a room that gets hot during the day.

Things seem to be moving in the right direction and I’m hoping that’s all that’s needed.

They look like the kind of battens on the PowerPacks - if so, then making mistake of bad folding is actually reduced, since they are stiffer and a bit bigger than PRv1 and easier to just grab with the same power pack center line collapse steps.
I’ve had zero issue with my power packs battens, and can estimate stowing the PRv2 won’t be as easy as the PowerPack, but soooo much better and easier than the PRv1 !

Thanks for the info on the battens, was helpful !

Ozone Pocket Rocket v2 5.7m. First session. 5 kts lulls to 15 kts gusts, tide going with the wind so effectively a couple knots less. Well below Ozone’s stated wind range. Not great but this is Seattle summer.

If the pw flies, it has good pull and it’s pretty easy to pump up on foil, a lot better pumping than v1. Doesn’t feel much bigger to handle than my 4.3 v1.

Some problems in this wind range:

  • Wind often too light to lean into a good upwind angle, pumping to stay flying
  • On the water, hard to keep the pw flying in lulls, and once it touches the water it’s hard to get it back out
  • As the wind kept dropping, I had to swim back, I don’t think you can taxi back when it’s too light like you could with a wing (to some extent)

So this will not yet replace a 15m foil kite unfortunately. I wouldn’t call this an ultra light wind machine, but more like something that gives you more power in “pretty light” winds, which maybe enables you to ride a sinker board and small foil instead of a typical light wind downwind board / big foil setup. Looking forward to that when the wind comes up a bit!

Beginner here, just finished session 3. I had pretty good success, by my standards, with the 4.3 Pocket Rocket v2. Feeling confident with takeoff, hooking in, going upwind, flying pretty stable. Then the wind picked up and I switched to the 3.0, and it was WAY harder. Super squirrel-y, unstable, very up and down, power was on and off, the tips would crumple and the parawing kinda wanted to flip over. The back lines felt proportionally longer than they are on the 4.3. I was surprised since my experience with wings is that smaller is easier (when powered sufficiently). I think I had enough wind for the 3.0. Is this how parawings are? Smaller being more technical and less forgiving?

That’s interesting. I got my 3.0 v2 earlier this week and really like it. I started my session on my v1 3.6 and then dropped down to the 3.0. Felt like it had plenty of grunt and was nice to fly.

Smaller parawings react much quicker to bar movement and feel squarely just how it is.

Interesting this popped back up. Yesterday I started on my 2.4 PRv2 and it felt really squirrely, then 3.0 felt great, then back on the 2.4. The 2.4 is great as long as you’re laser focused on flying it. I find that it is hard to fly from sitting on the board to standing, but once I’m on my feet it smooths out and once on foil it is great.

In my experience small windsurf sails, paragliders, hanggliders, wingfoil and parawings all get quicker and sometimes very on/off behaviours in smaller sizes.

Has to do something with scaling, relative boundary layer size and assorted aerodynamic thingys if i remember correctly.

And another launch from Sroka - now this one is interesting!!

Just as I was getting used to flying my North rover overpowered by holding the last two cm of the bar
