Wake foil selection help

Looking for some help getting my next foil setup. Current is a NL v2 mast with either a Takuma 980 or 1210. I’m 140lbs, and very happy with the way the 980 rides, but it just doesn’t have the glide for my small wake. 1210 is perfect energy management wise, but doesn’t turn so well. Is there a newer gen foil that has the efficiency of the 1210 but with way more maneuverability? Not partial to any brand, and will replace the mast as well if necessary. Thanks!

The Takuma 1095 is fun on the wake if you can find a used one.
If you are going to go new the Unifoil progression 170 works well on the wake for me at 185 pounds.

Thanks for the reply. I should have mentioned that I’m 140lbs (edited original post too). Would the 170 still be the right choice in the Uni line, or maybe the 140?

That is a good question. I have the 140 but I prefer to have a little more juice to really have fun on it at my weight.
I also used to ride the 1210 with this tail which loosened it up a lot

I second this setup, I ride the 1210 with the Pedigo tail and shim and it is $$$ behind the boat. I ride the 1095 behind the boat too but it’s not as forgiving unless you are on a big wake. Have not tried the 980.

Yea a smaller tail helps the 1210 immensely, but maybe you are all ready riding the 178 and not 220?

Thanks @Bpzimm and @wingNC. FWIW, with my 980 I’m using a KD Marlin 13". It didn’t seem to help loosen up the 980 at all. Mostly just eliminated the pitch up tendency at slower speeds. Made my front foot pressure more even across the speed range.

Fairly certain I tried the KD Marlin with the 1210 as well and didn’t notice much benefit either. @wingNC I’m using whichever tail wing came with the 1210 (pretty sure it’s a 220). I’m willing to try the 178, but if the Pedigo tail is the solution to make the 1210 a go-to setup, I’ll just buy it.

All this being said, the 980 worked really well for me behind boats with larger wakes. My boat just happens to not be wake surf specific and therefore has a small wake.

@sethstaff, @Bpzimm and @wingNC

Foilparts also has a shorter fuselage that should bolt right up. As I have a KD 13” paired with my 980, might I get similar performance to the tail you recommended using the KD tail with the 1210 and shorter fuselage? Thanks!

If I remember correct that fuse is pretty short. It makes the turning radius much tighter which could be fun on a tight wake. Not sure if it would help the glide.
