Looks like the same person or multiple scammers have open multiple accounts.
Always do a reverse search on the image
Watch out for recently join members
Ask for pic maybe with a unique note along with the item
If they insisted on payment ASAP, probably scammer.
Pay with PayPal with goods & service, not family & friends option. You get some buyer protection.
I think zelle, Western Union, and venmo have no buyer protection
Open to more suggestion, seems like there have been quite a bit of scam post recently.
It’s such a small community, should be easy to flush out scammers. If it gets worse, maybe have members tag others from their foil crew that can offer additional validation that it’s a real person
Using Goods and Services and adding 3% should become the norm. This is how a lot of self moderated reddit buy and sell pages work. You also have to post a picture with a paper showing your username and date. Venmo or PayPal have it, and never use Zelle.
Do not use Zelle! I was scammed out of $100 a couple weeks ago (not on this site). Super convincing, paid with Zelle through USAA mobile. It was a scam. Called USAA and the guy basically said they cant do anything about it. Thankfully only $100.
It’s only going to get worse now with ai and crap. They can probably provide exact pics of what you request now using ai pics.
The one I got scammed on, apparently there’s a way to reverse image search. It was on a Tacoma fb group, if you reverse searched the image posted it was a for sale ad of that part from a forum that was already sold.
Using people on the forum as a reference is not a bad idea, and simply FaceTime ing a prospective seller, to see they are real, to see the product in hand, get a sense of their vibe, ask some pertinent foiling questions while live. I’ve bought and sold with no issues numerous times on this forum. All ways to feel a lot better about a transaction. Good luck everyone!
I’ve had 3 good transactions in the past few months as both buyer and seller here…great community.
I think it might help if things like a face time with product in seller’s hand became a standard expectation, along with other ways to weed out/prevent scams…not just pieces of advice on a single thread (or two or three, after people get ripped off).
I also think it would be helpful to catalog details on previous scams and scammers in one place that’s easy access/go through.
I’ve sold all my gear FB marketplace locally in the past, but I am considering selling some Code gear on here to reach a greater amount of people. What are peoples recs to me as a seller for procedure that can maybe be standardized so everyone- buyer and seller feel secure.
